It took three of them 2 days to do what I could have done in under an hour.

Their results were wonky, so I just spent the past three hours going through what they did in order to determine that they were using the wrong units for an external dataset.

This means that it took them 2*8*3 = 48 man-hours in order to be of net (1 - 3) = -2 hours benefit to me.

In other words, their efficiency is approximately -2/48 = -4% of mine

wtf does wonky mean?

They were obviously wrong, but the reason for their wrongness was not obvious until I went through everything they did step by step

I just handed one of them something to do which would take me ~3 hours. According to my calculations it should take her ~18 workdays to do it, and when she's finished it will take me ~9 hours to decipher where she's fucked up.

 Be careful, let something like that slip out at review time and they'll expect a raise.

I am lazy. That's why I work really fast: so that I can show up for 4 hours and then go home.

It's been killing me lately that I have to pick up and drop off my fiancee from work, because that means that I put in 8 hours every day. I'm now producing more than the rest of my research group combined.

Fall ill for a month. Make it obvious how productive you are. Get a raise.

I'm a graduate student. We don't get paid based on how productive we are.

You don't want to look to productive. That's bad.

It can be good if he is almost ready to graduate. Then his advisor will hook him up big time.

just make sure your supervisor knows it's you covering their ass.
and if you're not paid to be productive, what are you paid to do?

It's good to look indispensable. They'll cuddle you and hire stripteasers on your birthday.

Bullshit. They'll pile work on you while everyone else twirls their thumbs and surfs the internet.

Why not assign them the work, but do it yourself anyway in an hour? Saves you two hours of work, it gets done by you anyhow, and you can hand both versions in to whoever supersives you/them. Just get the labels right.
