Personally, I despise Pink Floyd, (though I like the Syd-era stuff I've heard, See Emily Play is amazing) but only a fool would doubt their, and his, influence on the music world.

A real shame.

...and I just downloaded Piper At The Gates Of Dawn last week. Hmmmm, who shall I curse next?

Syd was always better than them. :(

Yeah - as far as Floyd goes the 1st 2 albums (although Syd is only a bit part on the 2nd, he is still there) and the compilation, Relics are all you need.

yadda yadda yadda

To say syd was better than them, well, songs about pet mice, bicycles, underwear thieves and weird shit are one thing, and concept albums with serious philosophical and psychological artistic approaches are another. I like them both.

Never liked his work, personally. It was all a bit psychotically twee for me. Still, very sad etc.

I think I had somewhere a couple tapes of his solo works too...

At the time I thought they were interesting, but can't recall a single note now, which should mean something (about my memory at least)
Of course I can't be held as benchmark at all...

I guess his best legacy is for having inspired Wish You Were Here and Shine On You Crazy Diamond....
