My Boss and his boss agreed last Wednesday that I would give them a time to complete a project I haven't even started. They agreed that I would have that timeline in Friday/Monday Morning.

I told my boss that I couldn't possibly predict a timeline on a project I hadn't even looked at. There's development work, getting a team together, and myriad of factors that will depend on test results of tests that haven't even been developed or even defined.

I told my boss I would try.

Thursday and Friday I was busy posting.

Monday Morning I send in a ghantt chart with my timeline (which is crap)

My boss' boss e-mails me back with:

"Thanks. In the future, please, if we agree that you will give out the information on Friday, either do it on time or tell us why you cannot. It looks bad when we hear nothing on the agreed upon day."

We?!

Get mad at my boss then as it was with him you had the agreement! I told my boss that 'I miss one deadline that I wasn't even told about and all of a sudden I have poor communication skills?' I went through all my e-mails from the past year and saved all the unsolicited e-mail updates I have sent people on other projects. My boss said it's a leason in coach... that ain't coaching!

I know that my boss' boss got reamed because he probably promised that timeline to someone Monday Morning and didn't have it.

I'm going to get an MBA so I can demand things from people with a due date of yesterday.

Do, or do not. There is no try.

Japher

he prioritizes my work

if he wanted it done he was going to have to clear some of my work

I told him what I had to do and needed to get done, that timeline wasn't given priority

Why? The success of the project (at least for me) determines my future career probably more then my bosses future career.

True.

But career is important if you have been sacrificing income, time, and other such things for it for years..

Genius. The Montgomery Scott School of Engineering method. Get it done a week early and they'll kiss your feet.

Yeah, but what if counterglow goes down and you get it done a month early? Then they would always expect you to get stuff done early!

Dilithium crystals are better than an MBA

I just realized that with my crappy gpa from my undergrad (BS, Chemical Engineering) it's going to be difficult to get into a program. I'm going to have to kiss some ass.

Either I'm really sleep deprived, or this is the most innuendo laden post in history.

I bet your Gantt chart went something like this:

Day 1 - Start Project
Day 379 - Scope creep

You should submit a collection of your CG postings and some pictures of women with bananas. Should be perfect for admission to an MBA.

At the very least, use CG as a reference. We can put together a nice letter for you.

Japher

I've talked with people at University of Cincinnati and Xavier and they both said that the gpa is only part of what they look at. My 7+ years of real world experience, references, and interview skills also come in to play. I may be admitted on a temporary basis, to prove myself. They just don't want any slackers!;)

I want to go to NKU, but they seem to be sticking to their GPA admittance policy. I've got some more people to talk to there though. I can actually be pretty persuasive when I have to be.

Good luck Japher! My sister is also pursuing an MBA while working. She had crappy grades in college, but her work experience helped her a lot.

However, I don't think North Korea University is the place to go.

Hmm. MBA. Is that where you get to be a manager reminding their staff to ask if they want fries with that?

Provost Harrison
28-06-2006, 10:41:47
Sounds familiar. I get something my supervisor and manager needed doing but with no level of urgency whatsoever, and therefore with my workload, is still somewhere on that pile. They decide yesterday that they actually needed it at the end of April. They didn't even give me the thing until late May  Fuckwits...

From what I can tell it got delegated down to me because neither of them have a fucking clue what is going on, procrastinated on it, and then passed it to the person who knows what the fuck he is on about (I don't think any of the three supervisors/managers do).

Pretty much.

@PH; exactly. Nothing is urgent until it's late with these people. I work with the head of Manufacturing a lot and he is very good about telling me when he wants things done by, and then I tell him if it can be done by that date, or when I will know when it can be done. The Manu. dude has never come to me expecting me to have finished the work he is about to ask me to do. Unlike my stupid boss who always seems shocked that I haven't done what I wasn't asked to do.

Japher

my boss from my last job e-mailed me today asking how to program the PLC on a glassware washer I haven't touched in over a year

I couldn't remember, but I think I awnsered his question for the most part. Seeing as I don't have the manual I can't give him a devinitive awnser.

Anyway, I hit him up for a letter of recommendation for school. Also, I hit up one of my friends for a personal reference; he is a University Prof at Fresno State.
