View Full Version : Geek GIMP question

So I am wanting to install GIMP on my XP laptop. And I have done so, and it works, and I have installed GhostView on it, and it works.

But I can't seem to get GIMP to be able to read ps files. I have tried using the set command from the command line to create an environment variable called GS_PROG but it doesn't seem to work. I am not familiar with setting windows environments, however.. (do you need to redo anything like you do in Linux?).

To create an environment variable that is active for all applications on Windows XP, you need to:
* Right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties"
* Click on the "Advanced" tab
* Click on the button on the bottom labelled "Environment Variables"
* Click the "New" button under "System variables"
* Enter the variable and its value, then click submit

If you just set an environment variable through the command line, the variable is only active in the one command line window, and it is forgotten as soon as you close down that command line window.
