I just spent about four hours looking at Wikipedia, bouncing from one disturbingly complete article on comics to another. All I wanted to know was how different the Xmen movie was from the comics.

So this is what people do when given the opportunity to create an archive of human knowledge?

Very different in detail about the plot. The characters and their interactions were very similar. In general the feel of the story was very much in keeping with the original.

edit: but the comics have 40 years (maybe more) of backstory, and the movies did a good job of compressing some major elements into a trilogy of films I think.

Yeah, I had a vague idea of the storyline from the comics (though I don't know where I picked it up, I never read them...) but even the pieces I knew didn't seem to fit with the third movie.

there's a lot of terrifyingly nerdy shit on wikipedia. like you read some article about some concept or author and there'll be a section at the end saying '# was mentioned in the credits of Stargate episode 5 season 4, 'When Vorgons attack' or some other shit.

but it could be worse, you might have spent four hours reading meticulously detailed and precisely inoffensively worded accounts of the history and conflicts of israel or some other depressing stuff

The original XMen were:

Professor X
Cyclops
Angel
Beast
Iceman
Marvel Girl

This was from 1963 until they were cancelled after issue 65.

They did reprirints of the early issues that ran from #66 to #93.

The New X Men were introduced in Giant Size X Men #2, and the new team begins from issue #94.

The new group adds:
Wolverine
Nightcrawler
Storm
Collosus
Thunderbird (they kill him two issues later)

The movies draw most of their story lines by twisting Uncanny Xmen 114 to about 210 as well as Marvel Graphic Novel #4.

Marvel has a site for the group:

Yes. That is exactly what they do.
