Piratebay was raided and all their servers taken until the police can determine if a crime is taking place.

Depending on the result this iwll either hurt the hell out of filesharing, or make companies worldwide cry.

Never liked the site anyway, the trackers sucked.

Don't worry. The Pirate Party will fight it. That's exactly the sort of activity that every person with an internet connection should be allowed to engage in!

Some people on Slashdot apparently think the Pirate Party actually has a chance of electoral success come September.

:gasmaske:

I think the Dutch Pedo Party has a better chance. What with it wanting to legalize non-violent, adult on adult porn for all broadcast hours, and free train rides for all.

Directory works, but the search functionality won't be online until later today.

I like how the all pictures in the paper or tv news relating to the story depicts filesharers as hooded teenagers sitting in dark rooms.

Also apparently the homepages of the police and later the government was exposed to "some sort of attack" and got overloaded.

Oh and thanks corporate america for telling our authorities what to do.

Ah works now. Must have been just the time I tried it earlier.

So, did they win?

Just some stats...

... here are some reasons why TPB is down sometimes - and how long it usually takes to fix:

Tiamo gets *very* drunk and then something crashes: 4 days

Anakata gets a really bad cold and noone is around: 7 days

The US and Swedish gov. forces the police to steal our servers: 3 days

.. yawn.

How do you slow down piracy? By putting a large torrent site prominently in the news!
