BNP stood in the ward next to mine... Thankfully came a poor third. Was very disturbing how many people I talked to who said they would have voted BNP if there was a candidate (mostly people voting Labour.)

How does this interfere with your work then?

Kitsuki

Not at all, being a Cllr is part time - evening meetings midweek and resident casework. Can't wait to get stuck in! :)

I now know two councillors - I wonder if I can use this awesome political influence to my benefit?

Kitsuki we all know you are not old enough to be a councillor, please turn yourself in before this farce goes any further

He wasn't up this time, but the Tory candidate in the ward increased the majority by 15% I think.

Yeah, I'm afraid you must now die in an autoerotic asphyxiation incident while being whipped by a fat, middle-aged dominatrix which you've paid for with money you've swindled out of the council budget. Such are the rules, nothing we can do about it.

Nills Lagerbaak

That would indeed be a freak accident, considering the amount of practice he's had at it.

It's called "death by tory-tory"

Hookergate is a real political crisis in the US Congress right now. It seems up to 15 Congressmen (one being the local corrupt Republican Randy "Duke" Cunningham who is now in jail for accepting bribes) we hooked up with hookers, hotel rooms, and free limo rides by a defense contractor in exchange for approving dubious defense contracts.

Isn't retired Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham the same guy that was the factual basis for "Top Gun"? I wonder if Tom Cruise is going to play him in the eventually upcoming "Hookergate" movie?

Hey congratulations!

If there have to be Tory councillors in this world, I can't think of a better one than you...:p

btw, Oerdin, how can that be a scandal? There are no Bushes, Clintons, or Kennedys involved! It's not getting much real news coverage. An article now and then or an odd 30 second filler is all I've seen of it. Not like the wall to wall coverage of other things.

Rumor from the congressional staffers is that's all business as usual for DC (for both parties), and they aren't even bothering to change their normal practices.

I like to think if I ever to get myself caught in a scandal that I can think of a more imaginative one than that.... ;)

Oh come on. It's a cliche, you have to do it. Think of it as ironic humour.

As Dave said, I wasn't up for election this year, but I have a new Conservative colleague who won by 485 votes. Given that Labour topped the poll in 2004 we are very pleased.

Dave won by 23... :smoke:

23 eh?

If only 12 people had switched their votes to the other guy instead - just goes to show how important it is to cast your vote...;)
