Great PR. Between that and the look alike that Bush hired to show up he looks great, he can take a joke and not just be one.

He is actually getting pretty well known here.

Started in Second City with Amy Sedairis (DaviD's sister) and Paul Dinello. They have done tons of stuff off broadway and on TV.

Had a failed TV show in the 90s called Exit 54 or something. Had antoher show on Comedy Central called Strangers With Candy that was awesome, got amazing reviews, but no viewers so was canceled after season 3.

The Strangers With Candy Movie comes out next month I believe.

Colbert plays a teacher bent on winning the science fair at any cost. He is also a closet homosexual who has rough gay sex with the art teacher. Should be a good movie.

He also currently has a 4 day a week news show that is just like all the shows on Fox news. The only difference is you can laugh when he says things, because you know he is joking.

You mean Fox News is not meant to be comedy? But it's from Fox, the people who brought us The Simpsons!

The simpsons is meant to be a comedy?!

Well when sued by former reporters for changing facts etc they did manage to win in court because they are an "Entertainment" channel, not a news channel. Therefore they are not required to adhere to facts as long as they don't violate any laws, just like the Daily Show and Stephan Colbert!

I saw his show once or twice when I was in California. I couldn't tell any difference to fox news.

maroule
04-05-2006, 08:42:07
then "topinambour" is as good a translation as any

Dyl Ulenspiegel
04-05-2006, 08:58:55
Or "cul mÍme".

Btw, the most amusing thing about Colbert is how annoyed washington's bootlick press is. Eg http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/03/AR2006050302202.html

HelloKitty

That article makes me absolutly certain Colbert did everything right!

What idiot hired him without realizing what he would do?

maroule

this cohen guy is making a dick of himself. He just stopped short of saying that Colbert 'rudeness' was weakening the US therefore helping Al Qaeda

Dyl Ulenspiegel
04-05-2006, 10:18:09
"Rudeness means taking advantage of the other person's sense of decorum or tradition or civility that keeps that other person from striking back or, worse, rising in a huff and leaving."

Yes, how rude. Almost makes me cry.

Maybe this rudeness is some form of terrorism now.

maroule
04-05-2006, 10:36:26
He has a point though, Colbert IS rude. He did shit in the punch ball these lackeys were enjoying.

Dyl Ulenspiegel
04-05-2006, 10:41:57
that's not rudeness, that's hygiene.

HelloKitty

And colbert had the audacity to use a MIXED METAPHOR!!!

That is never funny!

Now now, Kitty. The Daily Show is a serious news outlet, as polls of Nielsen families have shown. Over 10% of American adults between the age of 18 to 35 get *all* of their news from The Daily Show, and only The Daily Show. The only news more trusted then it is Fox News.

ABC, CBS, NBC, and NYTs are all asking for help on being as accurate, trusted, and reliable as Fox News and CC's The Daily Show. Unfortunately, the Colbert Report is still too new, so it hasn't gotten a real following, nationally speaking, when the polls were taken. Next year, maybe.

Koshko

That's actually true. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

He's whole show is a parody of Fox News. It's funny as hell.

Earlier this week he put forth a very convincing argument on why gays shouldn't be allowed to drive.

I think it says something when the top two trusted news sources in the country are made up news.

They are more entertaining than regular unbiased news though.

For the first 10 mimutes, I honestly could not tell the difference. Especially as even CNN went from american-biased to outright jingoistic at the time over the dubai ports thing.

The other guys have been caught too often in making it up themselves as well. Right now, the only difference is what demographic group they are trying to claim they have to their advertisers.

The Daily Show and the Colbert Report should be getting some decent money, considering they have a lock on a sizable 18 - 35 demographic block (which is the group it seems everyone wants so as to "lock" them into a brand for life).
