Intellectual property rights and work integrity. What's so wacky?

So if you TiVo the movie, and pause it so you can get a snack, it's a violation of intellectual property rights?

There may be a tiny little difference between you in your home watching a videotape, and a TV station broadcasting a film.

Theatres tend to edit plays they run, due to funds and time alotted, and occasionally due to the tastes of the target audience.

Should they be sued as well?

Depends on the contract under which they can perform the film. Usually, tv stations can interrupt films with commercials, too - unless the holders of the rights state otherwise.

If you need contract law 101, please find a website for that.

You do know that theatres need the permission of the playwright to perform a play, right?
