someone brought a whole bag full of old-school candy to work today

the atomic fireball jawbreaker things are much hotter than I remember, and the caramels aren't as good - maybe they've been in a storeroom for the last 25 years?

I just received a meeting request through Outlook, probably as a result of comments I made about the Atomic fireballs earlier...

Subject: Atomic WG:

The betting window will be open until 5 minutes prior to the event. The rules will be explained at 2 pm and the competition will begin promptly at 2:10. Please do not be late.

I'd like to thank our participants in advance: X, XX, XXX, and XXXX.

I only tentatively accepted the meeting. Its almost certainly a trap of some kind, but there's usually some fun to be had in being a victim if you can figure out what's going to happen beforehand.

Yes, the bosses are away this afternoon.

They pulled atomic fireballs (aka atomic warheads) off store shelves when I was 14 or so.

Those fuckers could literally burn the skin off the inside of your mouth.

BTW, the competition is going to be to hold the atomic warhead in your mouth for as long as possible. We used to do that as kids.

you're sorta right

the competition was to put 4 of them in your mouth and hang your head over a paper towel with your lips parted (putting your lips together was a disqualification)

The last person to drool wins.

It was a somewhat loud contest, since the players were trying to suck the drool back through 4 fireballs before it could drip.

I had to spectate on that one. I had one of them earlier in the day and it was hot enough to make me break out in a sweat.

That's just an example of the maturity of a bunch of 30-something PhDs. The whole event ended up taking only 10 minutes from rule reading to the sticky end, do I'm having difficulty feeling guilty about stopping my work to watch.
