I have an uncle who joined a group that remade a steam train and a section of track...

I think that they take people on it sometimes.. but the purpose wasn't to make money, rather to have a steam train

did you ever like doing arts and crafts?

some people do.. and trains are more manly than knick nacks or doilies...

also, it seems that from the 19th century there is still some fascination of men and trains (trains, planes and automobiles are the three.. trains was the first) (and because of cost.. planes haven't really started dominating)

I'm making models from my designs, so in a kinda way a part of my work is art & crafts.
but the money it costs!!!!
he just bought a choochoo for 500 euros
and i can't see the fun in riding those things around.

it does seem like the province of men only

sort of like bookshelf board wargames...

when I went to model train things (Expos? I dont' really know) it seemed like it was all men, and sometimes their wives that they dragged along

what else is men massively?

I know that civil war reinacting and SCA are both sexes..

they generally do things like sewing and making stuff the old fashion way

 I've seen them. They're really nice though, hand crafted in great detail. But why you would spend that much money on that is beyond me. As a kid I used to have miniature planes that I glued together. I'll have to wait another 8 years before I can start doing that again :D

My world
There's no love lost between
Me and this old great big world
That will never change
So I made my own one
In my own time true to scale
In my own house
My world
Little shops and little houses
Tiny trains that always run on time
Little men and little ladies
Everyone there is a friend of mine
My world
In my own time
In my own house

I'm a Model Railroader subscriber and train buyer...just lack the discipline to actually build the fucking thing!

It's like having fish (something else women don't seem to do...hrrrmmm)...a man is ultimately controlled almost completely by his circumstances and environment. He is not allowed to be overtly maternal or nurturing, so, life in miniature represents something he can control and change in an elemental way.

Or, alternately, kill and destroy if he so chooses.

Those fish had it coming.

They kept staring at me.

And they were so demanding...so demanding.
