My iPod locked up.

I restart it by holding down the centre-button + menu button, when it boots back up the data is all corrupt and it tells me to restore to factory defaults using iPod Updater.

So I do that, hook it in...it "synchronizes" with my iTunes. By synchronize, I means silently deleting my entire music library on my PC.

Fortunately I have other copies, namely a synchronized copy on my laptop, but HOLY FUCK.

What fucking retards do they have working there? Not only can they fuck up a simplistic music playback device, they can design software that can kill your whole collection if that ever happens!

Fucking morons.

How come you got an iPod? I thought you were all like "buy creative, they're so much better, gobble gobble"?

Because my old one finally bit the dust and I needed to get a new one. The "iPod with Video" just came out and at the time Creative's product was somewhat obsolete in comparison and the new one was delayed.

Apple also gives a student discount.

I regret my decision. :(

This is one reason why I don't do MP3's at all. My CD collection is a lot harder to wipe.

I'm burning backups onto DVD-Rs to be sure for now; but it's taking quite a few.

Own Fucking Goal!

And remember, even retards want loving. Isn't it nice to know that Apple loves to fuck retards and morons? Of course, they fucked you, which makes you a retard/moron. Explains why you post here.

Can anyone recommend a decent MP3-type player? The Sony ones look impressive, but I expect there's some horrible catch that isn't obvious to a Luddite like me.

Apple are working on that. On their next generation of iPod, there will be a miniaturised high powered X-ray laser that will target your harcopy music collection and vapourise them :D It's the future!

They may have changed, but Sony was going with a propriatory format that could not be converted to and from MP3 format.

The newest sony ones may be different though.

I use the creativeNOMAD Zen Xtra. Its great.

Sony adopted MP3 and WMA finally.

I believe Sony has a long history of coming up with a proprietary standard, charging way to much for it, then when no one buys their standard they switch to the other standard they'd spent years name calling.

As for which to buy I haven't a clue. I bought a creative a bit over a year ago and it is still running great so I have no plans on buying a different one. It doesn't have video but I mostly listen to it while driving so I wouldn't use video anyway.

I think it's interesting that MP3 players are starting to get PDA functionality.

If you don't want to watch a video of your favorite band whilst crossing a busy road, and just want to hear it, I suggest Phillips Micro Dukebox's. Does what it says on the tin, it plays MP3s, no fancy games or colour screen. And they're cheap, and same size as the old iPod Minis/

SP A review I read called it sub-PDA functionality, so its a gimmick at best.

I can't imagine there's an easy way to input data. It could be useful for things like shopping lists and directions, as long as you put them into Outlook first.
