View Full Version : Seen anyone famous recently?

Over the last year I seem to be going through a rich vein of form of spotting famous people about. Manchester's pretty good for seeing Premiership footballers and the odd soap star about (not that I ever give a toss about Coronation St!) but on days out in London or on holiday last year I've seen quite a few about. The most suprising encounter has to be Oscar winning actress Kathy Bates at a budget campsite in Wyoming. Here's a list of ones I can remember over the last year in descending order of fame. Some of you non-Brits won't have a clue who some of these are.

Robbie Williams
Alan Rickman
Kathy Bates
Jarvis Cocker
Andy Rourke (Smiths bass player)
Will Carling
Bez
Mark Lawrenson
Andy Cole
Morten Gamst Pedersen
Tal Ben Haim
Kiki Musampa
Lucy Pinder
Michelle Marsh
Rob Brydon (comedy actor)
David Threlfall (Shameless actor)
Matt Smith (ITV sport. I know that's scraping the barrel!)

Anyone else have any interesting encounters recently? :cute:

Actually it's his cunning way of avoiding all future drinking games. Pennying his wine is the last capital crime.

I saw him at Gatwick when Funko and Nav and I were on the way to Rotterdam.
And Nigel Havers (?) also in Gatwick while on the way to Budapest.

And I also see random MPs wandering around near work, I literally bumped into Charles Kennedy once.

I didn't see him either in my time there, but I remember a funny song from the Caius football team going about their players and chanting "we've got Steven Hawkings on the wing, we've got Steven Hawkings on the wing"

Well, when I was a basketball fan I used to see every week all the most famous italian baskeball players and some US stars who came playing here, from less than 10m distance.
Does that count?
;)

Or I met Ilie Nastase and Vitas Gerulaitis when I had them sign me a cap at a Milan Tennis Indoor, 30 years ago :)

Other than that, I met only locally famous TV stars or singers, and a few sport athletes outside the sporting context.

For instance, I happened to meet Fabio Capello 3 or 4 times shopping, when he was AC Milan manager.
I watched several movies next seat with Mike D'Antoni, current Phoenix Suns coach.
I ate a pizza once with a former basket italian national (Ricky Pittis), as I happened to know his gf.

I met Gigi Buffon (Juventus Goalkeeper) a dozen times (that was 3yers ago), playing roulette at the same table in St.Vincent.

The rest of those I met only Fist might have heard of here :D

Oh, yeah:
I met Bill Gates when I stewarded at a minor conference he held in Milan, IIRC I opened him a door and brought him a bottle of water :nervous: I know, but I had to work :o

It gets bonus points if you were vandalising the Blue Peter "Italian Sunken Garden" at the time.

I'd never heard of her either, but a quick Google reveals that she's a pair of breasts with a woman bolted on as an afterthought.

Bizarrely, there are strong rumours of les ferdinand's involvement in this atrocity.

Nothing is 100% clear Nuno, even now, over 22 years after that terrible day. Former presenter Mark Curry, in a moment away from his X-Files collection, suggested that the government had broken in to dig up the time capsule buried by Peter Purves and chums because it contained information about UFOs. We don't know too much about that, but we have established that Les Ferdinand, in an interview with The Sun in October 2000, admitted that he had been part of the gang responsible for the "malicious vandalism."

Sir Les denied that it had been his size eights trampling on Janet Ellis's beloved hyacinths, but admitted that he had helped gang members over the wall. At the time, Percy Thrower comforted Janet with the knowledge that whoever had done it "must be mentally ill."

I'm not convinced. Claiming to have vandalised the Blue Peter Garden is like claiming to have seen the Pistols at the 100 club- hundreds have claimed responsibility.

I've seen both Peter Kay and Dave Spikey wandering through Manchester city centre. I also walked past the girl who plays Deidre's daughter in Corrie last week, but I can't remember either her name or her character's name.

I was in a hallway quite a few years ago and came upon Muhammad Ali and what I assumed were two bodyguard types waiting outside of a courtroom to testify in some case involving another boxer. No reporters, in fact no one else at all was around. I would never bother someone like that, so I just nodded as I walked by. As time has passed I have come to regret not shaking his hand.

Fraid not old bean. I was 7 or 8 years old at the time, and he was opening the new garden center at our local Tesco.

Then I met Steve Davis at the afformentioned Tesco a few months later. Got his autograph and everyfink.

Supergrass, in the pub, was the last time I met famous peeps.

I met Darth Vader in a shopping center in Bristol when I was really young, 5 or 6 or so.

I thought it wasn't the real Darth Vader, despite parents etc. saying it really was (the way I figured it was just like the way that the Father Christmas in the shop at christmas isn't the real one...)

It was only years later when I realised that David Prowse was Darth Vader and from that neck of the woods that I appreciated it actually really was him.
