Pretty good story. Slow for the first half hour, but builds nicely. Beautifully shot, no problems with the plot.

But what were they thinking with the casting? I don't have a problem with casting a bunch of Chinese actors for Japanese roles. But Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi? These are the ninjas from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Especially during the fan dances I was just waiting for those fans to get imbedded in someone's jugular vein. Hiiyah! Pow!

If you are a good actor by all means branch out. Try other types of movies than the martial arts ones. Anything is better than House of the Flying Excrement. But one ninja retread is more than enough for this movie.

Thats why they were cast in the first place. These two very lovely ladies are well known all over the world simply because of that one very excellent film.
Have you ever seen a real Geisha? Moose. Obviously not in Japan. There was an interview with one in the Sun, so probably not a very intalectual (sp.) disscusion.

Can't wait to read the book and then see the film though.

fine movie,
just thought that it would be better if it was spoken in japanese.
