Because they were already using a point as a separator in Roman numerals.
Unsurprisingly, it is the Brits who decided to be different, and then forced large parts of the world to copy them. [wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_separator)]

100-0 (n), forum game
A pox on the forums where a poster asks an (apparently) obvious question. If the question is answered in the following post, then the point is "won" by the questioner replying "100-0" in the subsequent post. The 100-0 gambit can be reversed if the question is answered "Own goal". (Contrib: Liquid)

yes, pooppipper, AND???

Tizzy
01-02-2006, 17:03:15
At the risk of confusing the issue any more, in this case mrG made a statement to which Venom responded with a question.

The definition above calls for a question to be answered for a 100-0 to be called.

The correct response I think would have been for mrG to call Own Goal to Venom's question?

Tizzy
01-02-2006, 17:19:23
Although maybe not as it really wasn't obvious what he meant

Funko
01-02-2006, 17:27:03
Tizzy is right.

Responding with a question, potentially setting up a further 100-0 is a totally valid counter.

The glossary definition is half baked.

I was just considering the sub-case in which the answer is in form of a question, but actually contains the explanation to the obvious initial question.
In that case, answering with a rethorical question should not be enough to save you from a 100-0, methinks

MoSe
02-02-2006, 11:48:25
In this particular case I agree that Venom was not HNable, not much thanks of the countersetup, but because he didn't actually fall in the trap of explaining something obvious, wich wasn't even that obvious in the first place as Tizzy said.

Although, considering Euros (like dollars) have cents but not "thousandths", that could not be a decimal point because there wouldn't have been 3 digits after it (except for phone tariffs, stock values, exchange rates... :p )

BUT....
a shocking surprise to follow!

I actually knew english pretty well, I just have forgotten most of it. :cute:
Some sparse chunks resurface from time to time tho ;)

In the case at hand, I just had to recall the pedantic distinction made by Qaj here.
And knowing when to use a noun or an adjective is international.

Luring a pedant to come out on that pedantic distinction is so metarecursively satisfying that it almost feels like cheating, like say, 100-0ing the rules :cute: :p
