Anyone know how to put a figure into the document? The figure is a ps file.

TECH FORUM!

You can't put a ps file in a LaTeX document directly. You have to convert it into an eps file first.

See here:
http://www-group.slac.stanford.edu/techpubs/help/figures/eps.html

And speaking of which, you can also put images in other formats than eps into your document.

I'm assuming you know how to handle the figure environment. If I'm wrong, scream (but before you do, check out section 4.1 of the LaTeX tutorial (http://ctan.tug.org/tex-archive/info/lshort/english/lshort.pdf)) !

is there anyway to do ps->eps in windows?

also, I don't know how to handle the figure environment, but I Will get reading on 4.1

this is what I had

\documentclass[dvips]{article}

\usepackage{graphicx}

\begin{figure}
\centering
\includegraphics{D:/c0.ps}
\caption{Raw ADC values for 6 detectors in E01-012}
\label{fig:c0}
\end{figure}

can I just change it to d:/c0.eps (And do the conversion in a linux terminal?)

If you have LaTeX and/or Ghostscript installed - enter ps2epsi in your comand promt :p.

On the figure: yes, you can, as long as you convert the file.

A propos, I'd discourage the use of absolute paths.

JM^3

how do you do non absolute paths in windows?

JM

JM^3

it doesn't work still

I have

\documentclass[dvips]{article}

\usepackage[dvips]{graphicx}

\begin{document}

\begin{figure}
\centering
\includegraphics{D:/CPeak.eps}
\caption{Peak versus Detector Number}
\label{fig:CPeak}
\end{figure}

\begin{figure}
\centering
\includegraphics{D:/CWidth}
\caption{Peak Width versus Detector Number}
\label{fig:CWidth}
\end{figure}

? Same as in any system, you omit the root directory, then it is assumed you are reffering to the current directory.

Oh, and BTW, the path seperator in Windows is "\", not "/"
----
1. What is "CWidth"?
2. What errors do you obtain?
3. That's not the entire document, is it?

JM^3
23-12-2005, 13:06:05
CWidth is a graph, currently in eps form

the rest of the document is text plus 2 other figures

I can't seem to copy the error messages

basically the ones I Can see are complaining about indexs and citations and stuff (Which I have none of)

while there are more errors than that, they don't appear in my little box

JM

JM^3

hmm, that changed things a bit

I still get some errors, and nothing gets printed to the screen, but now there are 4 pages of whitespace

Hmmm, could it be that the file it's trying to read does not exist (ie. the path is wrongly specified)?

Also, check whether you have the psfonts.map file in your LaTeX distro.

JM^3

\begin{figure}
\centering
\includegraphics[scale=.5]{CPeak.epsi}
\caption{Peak versus Detector Number}
\label{fig:CPeak}
\end{figure}

and it is in the same place as the latex file

I could try and give an absolute position

See above.

At this point I'd recommend using another image format (like PNG). The syntax is basically the same for the figure, however for the package you have:

\usepackage[final]{graphicx}

At least that's what works for me. Also, I'd recommend something like:

\documentclass[12pt,a4paper]{article}

for the documentclass.

JM^3

how do you change the figure from ps or epsi to png?

JM

LoD

1. Open the PS in a viewer
2. Set a good zoom level.
3. Press Print Screen.

I think you know what to do after that ;).

LoD
23-12-2005, 13:34:07
Also, there is a ps2png utility on some Linux distros.
