my mum gave up when she was expecting us but smoked in between and afterwards as did my dad, as the dangers of passive smoking weren't known then. I am the only person in my family with asthma/eczema/hayfever, and my brother has an incredibly rare auto-immune blood disorder- can't help but wonder what the effects of the smoking were/are.

I'm guessing she dropped you on your head a few times too. ;)

I've long wondered too.

Mum smoked while expecting both of us and both parents smoked till I was about 16.
Glowworm has asthma and is very sensitive to lung problems, we've both got (mild) eczema, and I had glue ear when I was little (which has left me with bad hearing) and that is definitely "more common in children of smokers".

Of course Mum and Dad don't believe there's any connection.

The answer is in the affirmative to both. She's hardly caning them, probably about 3 or 4 a day and none at the weekend, but still.

Don't apologise by criminee, get round there kick her up the poo hole. But do it gently though, gently but firmly. If it's possible to kick poo holes in that manner.
