Not sure which smiley should be used here.

Okay we lost. 4-2. So :(

But we're qualified for 2006 so :) :bounce:  etc.

But the worst thing is, as the match ended, Turkish players, supporters, security and even cops (!) started beating on the Swiss team players. One of them is even in the hospital now, he got kicked so hard in the groin that he has a ruptured urinary canal (or whatever you call it)

Fucking barbarians. and sore losers.

I hope the FIFA will deal with this one severely.

But yes, it was a disgrace. Glad they aren't at the World Cup.

And congratulations.

SPORT FORUM!!!

My point was not really about sport itself but rather the attitude of a large number of Turks, including government, customs officers, police, sports fans, football players, etc.

Turkey, welcome to the EU!

That's a bit what I meant.

Turkey is a shithole. I think all teams should refuse to play there. Even on the club level. Because, let's face it, shit like this happens every time a high energy match is played there. Those morons make the English Hooligans look like charm school grads.

To be honest, the first thing I noticed was one of the swiss players kicking someone from the Turkish training staff, as this video also shows. Still, it's not the first time something like this is happening in Turkey again, and I would not be surprised if they get suspended for some time now.

The turkish keeper runs over a guy first, but nonetheless the swiss guy also kicks for no apparant reason.

I have watched the match live on TV.
At the final whistle, ALL swiss players RAN to the tunnel: in 30 seconds there was NONE left on the pitch.
Most of the turks did the same, so in one minute only a couple turkish players remained there thanking the supporters anyway.
The picture frame was too wide to discern whether any object was being thrown: for sure it was not a "hail" - at least not for what you could see on TV.
Also, I haven't seen ANY kind of contact betwenn players while they were running towards the tunnel entrance. So, on TV you could see no one "clashed as they ran off the field."

Just my TV-witness report :cute:
The incidents must have happened inside the stadium bowels, not in the open.

____
OTOH, I've no motive at all to defend Turkey, but I'd like to recall what happened in the much more civilised Netherland, country of our good CG friends, during Euro 2000.

BEFORE the Netherland-Italy match (that is, before any reason of resentment for the incredible dutch defeat could be imagined), a well-known italian TV-sports comentator, Mario Mattioli, was accompanying a group of handicapped italians, many of them wheelchaired, to watch the match.
As it was later ascertained they had full right to get in (AFAICR), there was no reason to bar them from getting inside.
The DUTCH security instead prevented them the access, and when Mattioli attempted to protest for the disabled rights in a civil way, he got grounded by a policeman like a common criminal, reporting wounds. All the while, the innocent disabled got insulted and offended by all the security personnel and POLICE OFFICERS, filthy cripples and mafia freaks being probably the kindest words used.
This is all documented by TV footage. Our fellow European original member country Netherlands didn't consider Italy worth enough to receive the slightes hint of an apology for the incident (and we were too wuss to *demand* it...).

So, Turks reaction is absolutely despisable and condemnable.
But we should remember that not every European citizen and OFFICER, at ANY "latitude" (Italy included of course, upfront too) is much more civilised than that, we don't stand on much higher ground that we can lecture and patronise turks on how to behave...

Yeah, but those were police. Police are always beating people up outside stadiums, shooting people on subways, or jamming plungers in suspect's asses. It's what they do.

Controversy followed the game when television pictures clearly showed players fighting with each other and officials as they entered the tunnel to return to the dressing room.

Fifa is now set to probe the melee, which was captured on film.

at the end of the game, the default broadcast aired by the italian sport channel SportItalia was the classic wide frame from the up in the stands

the film/video reported above must have been for some extra/specialised broadcast

They have multiple cameras filming even if they are only showing one at a time.

You know MoSe they use lots of cameras at sporting events, right? Not just the one they put on TV.

probably not an exact quote/translation :D but I figure that in a racist Dutch officer mind that's synonym for 'italian handicapped'

yeah, indeed, that's what I meant

I'm not putting in doubt Red's or swiss authorities report, I was just defending my witness, I haven't seen what the press reports because that wasn't included in the default video broadcast

However it wil be very hard to top that historic basketball game played at the deepest depths of anatolia between a turkish and a greek team for the european cup. if there ever was hell on earth it was there. and we won. that was long before all that "turkish-greek" friendship sleaze too.

Was it better than the Malice at the Palace in the NBA last year? Because that was insane.

or was that the thing with the fighting with the crowd and stuff?

Same thing. Took place in Detroit's arena which is named Something Palace. So someone coined the phrase Malice in the Palace.

The footage I have seen shows Swiss players kicking members of the Turkish squad/ staff as they left the pitch. Undoubtedly, Turkey are sore losers and spat the dummy big time (A similar incident happened when England qualified for Euro 2004 ahead of them) but I wouldn't be too quick to absolve the Swiss of any incitement. Whether Turkey provoked this reaction from the Swiss or not is neither here nor there. The footage I've seen shows some pretty cowardly tactics from the Swiss too.

No-one could hate Turkey more than I do and I'm elated to see that they won't be tarnishing the world stage next summer.

Yeah, fair enough. I didn't see that first time around.

I'm more than happy to correct my first account and blame the Turks entirely. What a bunch of scumbags. I really hope they get banned from the next World Cup. It would be fully warranted. Its been due for years. And now I hear that they think Blatter's comments are down to a Swiss bias. They're just dillusional.
