Unless Funko gets pregnant again or Tizzy winds up in jail, the plan is for a meet sometime between March 22 and April 5. Funko is leaning towards a one week visit from the 22nd to 29th, so the weekend to focus on is March 25-26.

Hot dogs galore. Maybe, just maybe, alcohol might be involved.*

Sign up now or be forever barred.

*Except, of course, for our valued underage CGers. We are a responsible lot who pride ourselves on our maturity and we certainly endeavor to steer the youngsters in the right direction.

Lurker the Second

Most definitely. Bring the family and be sure to book first class so you have that little bit of extra room to help deal with the kid.

Ooooh, damn, I want to be there. I'll have to check with the War Ministery to check on possibilities. It would depend on how the pregnancy would go, and if and when the birth of the baby would be induced. Definately want to be there.

Is there an estimate on flight and hotel costs?

Flights seem to be about 250 for us. Hotels vary but NYC is an expensive city to stay in. If you go for something cheap it's likely to be a total shite hole. 50 a night or something... cheaper if you are sharing with someone.

And anyhow, I'm guessing for some time after that, Becca will need much more intensive care. So maybe I'll catch the 2008 meet or something :)

Seen some of you lot are off to NYC. I've been lucky enough to have gone there 4 times before. If you're looking for some cheap hotels in good areas there is the Portland Square Hotel (www.portlandsquarehotel.com) which is just round the corner from Times Square in Midtown and near all the subway links. It's sister hotel, The Herald Square can be found further Downtown. The Pickwick Arms Hotel is a budget midtown hotel and I've also stayed in the Hotel Beacon (www.beaconhotel.com) on the Upper West near Central Park, but the prices here are more mid-range.

Hoboken has practically become gentrified here, except for the gentry are younger professionals and people in the early stages of their careers. Housing, although relatively speaking much, much more expensive than it was 15 years ago, is still a lot cheaper than Manhattan, which is a 10 minute tube ride away. Lots of good bars in Hoboken.

I'm still waiting for my offer of dumpster room, Lurker.

Security clearance is pending. That little incident in Raleigh is creating some delay. WTF were you thinking that day?

Anyway, another thought about hotels is to look across the river in Jersey City. There are a number of hotels there (Marriots, etc) that are a ton cheaper than their equivalents across the river. They are also a block away from the PATH station, which is basically just a subway into the city -- maybe a 10 minute subway ride right into the downtown or Greenwich Village area. Odd are you won't be hanging around Times Square much anyway -- you'll visit it, but that's about it. The better bars for this group will either be on the upper east side or down near the village, and Times Square hotels are only more convenient to the upper east side than Jersey City. Not the case for the village area. Either way you will be taking a subway or taxi.

Whatever you do, you could put a bid on a hotel through Priceline.com for some ridiculouslly low price for a 3 or 4 star hotel (say $75) and see what happens. If the bid is taken you are committed (your card is automatically billed), but if you get a steal, who cares. If it is not taken you will just have to wait a few days before you are eligible to try again.

Any specific recommendations Lurkie?

Lurker the Second
06-01-2006, 14:24:07
Personally, I'd put a bid on Priceline for a 4 star hotel in Jersey City for $75. See what happens. If it is rejected, I think you can immediately put the same bid on a 3 star hotel, and if that is rejected I'd go no lower and just wait the 3 or 5 days and maybe up the bid by $20. Rinse and repeat until you've reached the limit of what you're willing to pay. I'm guessing advertised rates for a place like the Marriot there will be around $175 to $200 per night, but you really ought to be able to get a good deal on a weekend at that time of year.

Funko
06-01-2006, 14:28:07
Looks like a double is $129 a night.

Lurker the Second
06-01-2006, 14:32:11
Advertised? If so, then bid about half that. (That's actually a pretty good price -- it's the one near Journal Square, right?)

Ok, and that's 10 mins from town? It's also really close to the airport which is handy. Might make a good base of operations if a bunch of people need hotels for the weekend.

No, which is generally not a problem if you can narrow down the location close enough and use 4 star hotels. You'll either get a Marriot or Hyatt or some equivalent.

Fuck it. Just pricelined it. Got the Hyatt Regency on the Hudson about a mile from the hotel Funko et al are at for 60$ a night (plus 12.50 a night in taxes) for Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th
