I thought this article was really interesting (and spot on) about why things succeeded and failed in the web boom.

(part 1 of the interview was good too: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4372728.stm)

What specific parts were interesting? Just so I don't need to click the llink and read a lot.

"I didn't realise that in English free has two meanings - it has libre and gratis - that's very confusing."
Linus is from Finland and so he didn't quite understand the nuances

The geeks are out there on the front edge
These are people who are comfortable with technology and they're often the first to plumb its depths and push it to its edges and they can tell you a lot about the shape of the future.

that was the 1st article
the 2nd goes all bigbrotherish about how your participation in the web will be harnessed, so they can offer you what you like cuz they know what people like you like. and you'll end to get what 1 billion other people chose before you and you'll like whatyou get instead of get what you like.

I don't wanna be part
I'm old and fat

He also has to slowly wear you away over time, that's what he's doing now.

I'm begining to think that working is more interesting than posting here

Drekkus: the original article is basically saying that the websites that have survived the bursting of the dotcom bubble and been successful have all included some level of participation rather than just publishing information.

Wow, that's news?

09-11-2005, 14:05:59
No, it's an interesting article though. If you can't be bothered to read it I can't be bothered to care if my summary isn't interesting. :bash:
