I had no idea that the women of ancient Rome favoured the "Brazilian" until I saw this.

No. A brief almost glimpse of Gallic cockage from sideways on, but no Roman knobbage.

Pity...

What do you mean almost glimpse? There was a giant dong wrapped in ribbons on display for several seconds.

It turns out that the version being screened on the BBC is incomplete compared to the HBO one. The three 50-minute episodes directed by Michael Apted have been cut down to two 55-minute episodes for the BBC, on the grounds that British viewers "need less back story". And less cock, it seems.

Apted is furious. BBC are dumb.

I'm sorry, but we must have vastly different life experiences and standards.

This reminds me of an RE class at school where one girl asked, "So, what you are trying to tell me is that Jesus didn't speak English?!"

Having just bought the DVD, I'm pleased to say that it looks like the HBO version. In other words, it's not the one the BBC dicked about with, and the opening episode might actually make sense now.

It's billed as "As seen on the BBC (featuring an hour of previously unseen footage)". The twats.

I concur, bought it as well
Very good stuff overall, i'm at episode 6 and really liking it. They're managing a good balance of heroes' History with people's history, even if the two legionnaires sense of timing (i.e. always being at the right place at the right time) is ridiculous. But who cares... jolly good fun, and nice to see history is not dumbed down, or make asexual... it's the first time I see any work of fiction on this period with some much sex in it, which is splendid news, first because I like it, and second because that's accurate... only the bloody christians made sex a bad thing, and I still can't figure why (it probably went like "okay, the priest can't have sex, officially, but in return they'll be allowed to fuck up everybody else's enjoyment as well, making frustrated perverts by the billions")
