Hey

My training has been confirmed, I will be in Reading from 27th November until 2nd December.

Are you guys available any of these nights ?

Funko

No.

Yeah of course. :)

If you want to meet on Sunday, let me know ASAP so I can take an earlier flight. I am actually leaving on Friday night so it won't be possible then.

Funko
03-11-2005, 13:33:32
Doesn't matter either way. Depends what you want really.

Weekday evening/evenings would be fine for me.

How the hell does a Swiss company have training in Reading of all places?

Funko
03-11-2005, 14:08:15
Oracle and Microsoft are both based in Reading so loads of people come here for training

Venom
03-11-2005, 14:18:02
Reading is the tech capital of England? That's not right.

Debaser
03-11-2005, 14:19:17
Didn't Microsoft move away ages ago?

They had that horrible gaudy building built in Winnersh, then moved out of almost immediately...

Nills Lagerbaak
03-11-2005, 14:20:29
Yeah, to Thames Valley Park!

It's not technology capital of England, but it's pretty much IT capital.

Venom
03-11-2005, 14:22:43
I think my mental picture of Reading is way off.

Nills Lagerbaak
03-11-2005, 14:24:53
Little market town full of chain bars / shops and large industrial parks on the outskits with lots of flagship offices.

It's part of the M4 corridor which is the main vein of travel in the South so appeals to these companies massively. Good links to the airports and lots of space for hotels etc.

Funko
03-11-2005, 14:25:08
Debaser obviously hasn't got a train into London any time in the last 5 years...

Wow, you remember that first year (that's year seven youngsters!) TSE project!

Ah, Counterglow.

Or how a thread to arrange a meet turns into a discussion on the city where it's supposed to take place...

Funko
03-11-2005, 14:27:17
Sadly we aren't a city. Stupid Queen.

Venom
03-11-2005, 14:27:32
See, I was missing the flagship offices part. And I had more run down buildings and hookers. Also, there were monkeys hanging from the light posts.

Funko
03-11-2005, 14:30:51
The crack/smack whores hang out down the Oxford Road.

Sadly no monkeys. :(

Nills Lagerbaak
03-11-2005, 14:32:14
Although even the "whores" look more like lower class Chavs than proper hookers.

Venom
03-11-2005, 14:33:35
Why would you want to look like a chav, unless they are chavs.

Yeah, they are. Not sure what his point is or what he thinks whores look like.

Nills Lagerbaak
03-11-2005, 14:35:06
Dunno, but they don't look quite as run-down as real crack whores. It's mostly chaves in pink shell-suits smoking fags and pushing babies along - down the oxford road.

Venom
03-11-2005, 14:38:08
Babies might not be the best way to lure a john.

Funko
03-11-2005, 14:38:42
I think maybe those are just Chavs...

Nills Lagerbaak
03-11-2005, 14:39:18
Indeed they are.

Debaser
03-11-2005, 14:41:09
Ah yes, forgot it moved to TVP. Oops.

Venom
03-11-2005, 14:43:48
Is that how you seperate the Chavs from the real hookers? A lack of baby strollers and other tiny tot paraphenalia?

And I really wanted to use that big word there, but I really didn't spell it right. I should stop trying to look smart it only makes me look stupid.

When I went to Geneva for my seminar thing (and you weren't there) I accidentally spent an evening getting drunk with a load of Danes. The next day was definitely survival training!

Shame on you for poor planning of your trip ;)

Where did you go ?

(By the way, judging by the massive amount of responses in that thread, it seems it will be just the two of us in that meet...)

Would be cool to meet in London one night if you're up for thatl?

Aredhran
03-11-2005, 18:07:43
sure why not

Venom

most likely both, yes :D

Nills Lagerbaak

The M4 forms the "river" of the UK Silicon Valley! Reading and Swindopn are the biggest towns on the middle of this "valley"`

Kitsuki

I'm only over in Swindon, so wouldn't be opposed to opening a few beers!

MOBIUS

I might be tempted to drag my arse down the M4 for a few

Should be running out of my Belgian beer stash about then...:(

Swindon sounds like a shitty place to live.

Kitsuki
07-11-2005, 14:27:41
So does the USA in general.

Venom

It's the name. Swindon. Not appealing at all.

Whats not to like about a place which means Pig Hill?

Immoral Wombat
07-11-2005, 15:34:51
Is there a giant police station there?

"Down the M4"? WTF, I need a serious geography lesson.

Lurker the Second
07-11-2005, 15:45:17
Damn, I just got one, too. I always thought most of Wales was southwest of London, not northwest.

Funko
07-11-2005, 15:50:22
The M4 is horizontal East West. Cardiff is practically level with London so "down the M4" is just a colloquialism.

Venom
07-11-2005, 16:06:50
Because the minds of many people would equate London as the center of attention...the center of a wheel you might say. So as all things are spokes to the center.....durrrrrrrh I wish I was home right now.

Lurker the Second
07-11-2005, 16:08:23
So do we.

Venom

I'd be posting more right now because there's nothing on TV.

Lurker the Second

I think The Price is Right is on at that hour.

My flight lands in Heathrow at 17:40 on Sunday 27th.

What are your preferences for the meeting(s)

Sun (Reading only)
Mon-Thu (Reading or London)

Funko
09-11-2005, 09:04:55
I really don't mind... the London lot might have more preference but I can do any of them.

Tizzy
09-11-2005, 09:11:38
Doesn't matter to me either.

I think so far we have Sunday evening in Reading so Kitsuki can come (luckily the AD is closed on Sundays) and at least one evening (weds or thurs?) in London + all the other evenings in Reading.

I have a gig on the Saturday night so I might not be able to stay out too late on Sunday night.

Aredhran
14-11-2005, 13:37:08

Flight confirmed. I'll be landing at Heathrow on Sunday 27th at 17:40.

Not sure how much time it will take to get to Reading - I read that a shuttle service called RailAir is the fastest way, is that right ?

As soon as I have checked in, I'll be ready for some food and  with whomever is available.

Wednesday or Thursday in London is fine too. Who will be there ?

Tizzy
17-11-2005, 14:12:58
Yeah, the RailAir bus is the easiest/quickest way to Reading, think it takes about 45 minutes?

I'll be there! Probably for both again :D

Funko
17-11-2005, 14:21:30
It does.

What terminal are you landing at?

Just to save confusion - the RailAir bus does NOT go from the main bus station. There are bus stops by each terminal, should be signs in the terminal. And you buy your ticket on the bus.
