Well, I'd be interested in your reasoning behind that. Okay, he was sleeping with someone else's wife rather than cheating on his own, but he broke the ministerial code three times, has effectively sought to profit from his own position, his department fast-tracked his lover's nanny's visa application (contrast that with his rhetoric on immigration) and he is utterly unrepentant and clearly does not think he has done anything wrong.

Also Major didn't give those who strayed the opportunity to screw up twice and even three times!

Although on the subject of comparisons with "Tory sleaze", I read an interesting piece comparing Major's ill-fated "back to basics" (let down by the conduct of some of his ministers) with Blair's "respect agenda" (being derailed by the same thing).
