Well, after a few rather hectic months, the idea of putting an album of Aussie music together is still floating around in the back of my head. And tonight I came accross the perfect idea for my album. The Australian Record Industry Awards (ARIA) 2005. So, shortly I shall be creating a CD based of the awards. So, if you want a copy, speak up. And mention if you want a "normal" CD, or one full of MP3s.

If you go the "normal CD" option, you'll probably just get the winners of the awards. Go the MP3 option, and I'll see if I can come up with all 5 nominees for each category.

Oh, and PM me your address, so I can send you an envelope infected with the bird fl...er, I mean the CD. ;)

How much kylie is on it?

Well, I haven't made it up yet. However, from memory she was only nominated for two awards, and she won neither.

Most of the stuff would be newish bands, I have no idea how unknown or known o/s.

Bands/Artists like:
Pete Murray
Allex Lloyd
Shannon Noll (Australian Idol Winner)
Rogue Traders
Anthony Callea (Aust Idol Winner)
Missy Higgins
Kasey Chambers
Thirsty MErc
End of Fashion
Little Birdy
Sarah Blasko
Ben Lee
Mia Dyson
The Veronicas
Cat Empire
Natalie Imbruglia (though she's known internationally)
Joel Turner and the Modern Day Poets
Dirty South
Eskimo Joe
Johbn Butler Trio

If I put some country music on it:
Keith Urban
Sara Storer
Audrey Auld Mezera
Adam Harvey

And that's just some of them. Categories for Aria Nominations were:
Breakthrough Artist - Single
Breakthrough Artist - Album
Best Pop release
Best Country Album
Best Dance release
Best Urban release
Best Group
Highest Selling Album
Highest Selling Single
Best Rock Album
Best Independant release
Best Blues and Roots album

Stuff I may not include:
Best Children's Album
Best Comedy release

Have heard of some of those, I'd have had one no matter what was on it though. ;)

Nills Lagerbaak
26-10-2005, 11:21:55
What no Silverchair?

26-10-2005, 11:25:16
No Rolf Harris either.

Nills Lagerbaak
26-10-2005, 11:34:15
And no men at work?! That list is a farce.

Greg W
26-10-2005, 13:13:09
This is a list based on songs released in 2004/5. Seeing as Silverchair have split a few years ago, and Rolf Harris/Men At Work haven't released a song (that has charted anyway) in I don't know how long...

No, neither of those.

If we're just talking plain old Aussie music...

Actually, I tell you what. Anyone that wants a CD...I'll include a best of Australian Rock. Based wholly and solely on my opinion, no correspondance entered into or any bullshit like that. ;)

And no Kylie. :p

Out of curiosity, which out of those have people heard of? I have no idea how popular these bands are o/s. Hell, many of them I am barely acquainted with.

26-10-2005, 13:16:04
I've heard of:

Natalie Imbruglia
John Butler Trio
Keith Urban

I think they're are all fairly shit, with the exception of Bodyrockers, who are really shit. Imbruglia is fit though, so she's excused.

Greg W
26-10-2005, 13:27:07
You don't like "I like the Way You Move" by the Bodyrockers? I mean, that's one of the few songs from 2005 that I really like. Mainly for the guitar work I must say, I'm a sucker for a good chord/riff.

Saying Keith Urban is shit though...jeese, you're disagreeing with a lot of people there. I can't say that I like both types of music, but he's damned popular. And I'm sure not because he's shit.

26-10-2005, 13:28:16
Is that by them? That was really shit.

Greg W
26-10-2005, 13:33:28
It was? Damn. I must be getting old then, I liked it. :(

26-10-2005, 13:37:22
I guess it's all relative, I just found it a bit annoying.

26-10-2005, 13:38:16
That Bodyrockers song was fucking abysmal, probably one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

And yeah I think Keith Urban's shit. Popular doesn't have to equal good you know. Look at James Blunt, biggest selling artist in the UK this year, and his music is just bland lowest common denominator bullshit for 30-something women who like to think they can relate to Brigette Jones. Still not as bad as Bodyrockers though.

26-10-2005, 13:43:29
agreed on the bodyrockers, fucking terrible

if that is a good riff we are in dark times

Greg W
26-10-2005, 13:44:42
Oh well, no accounting for taste as they say. ;)

And no, I won't elaborate as to whether I am referring to mine or yours. :D

The Norks
26-10-2005, 20:34:01

Greg W

Greg W
28-10-2005, 09:52:31

The Norks

Nills Lagerbaak
28-10-2005, 21:24:42
Me too please!

Greg W
28-10-2005, 22:22:55
Right, then that would involve sending of addresses to moi, so that I know where to send them. Unfortunately my Crystal ball is in for repairs, so I can't get a reading on that right now. :p

The Norks
29-10-2005, 19:59:28

Greg W
30-10-2005, 09:22:26

30-10-2005, 12:28:27

Greg W
02-11-2005, 00:33:28
You can talk. :p

The Norks
02-11-2005, 17:07:51

Greg W
02-11-2005, 20:03:05
Damn straigt it is. My revenge was oh so sweet though. :D

Now, Funko, Nills and Norks, do you want the MP3 or Music CD option? TBH, I don't have most of these songs, so I'll be getting them in MP3. Burning them to Music CD ain't a problem, but the quality will only be MP3 obviously.

The Norks
03-11-2005, 08:22:26
CD for me

03-11-2005, 09:31:20
Might as well get the mp3s if they are mp3s anyway.

Nills Lagerbaak
03-11-2005, 09:39:29
CD for me please!

Greg W
03-11-2005, 19:45:14
Okay, I shall see what I can come up with. Burning different formats ain't a major problem, so you'll get what you want.

Now, rough ETA is about a week or two to get the music, and then however long it'll be to post them. I'm on holidays from next week, so I shall get cracking then.

The Norks
04-11-2005, 19:50:53
can you send mine over in a kangaroo? Tuck it into the pouch, give it a map, point it in the right direction & slap it on the arse.

and do male kangaroos have pouches? That just occurred to me, and you probably know :D

Greg W
06-11-2005, 11:32:08
Nope, only females. They also don't swim all that well, so getting it to England under it's own power may be a bit of a hassle. ;)

The Norks
07-11-2005, 18:41:38
give it a dinghy?

Greg W
07-11-2005, 22:51:13
Anyone told you recently that you're eeeeeeensane? If not, consider yourself told. ;)

The Norks
22-11-2005, 14:31:22

Greg W
22-11-2005, 19:21:57
Having a few problems getting a few of the songs. But, getting there...

The Norks
22-11-2005, 21:15:02
can you send me some australian stuff with it? you know- kangaroo hides, vegemite, kylie minogue, that sort of thing? :D

Trip to Oz might be back on.... am pondering travel plans for next year again. Need to get house move sorted first though.

Greg W
23-11-2005, 11:52:15
Right, so this thread has become the clayton's email has it? ;)

Not that I am harping on the issue. :cute:

Vegemite, not a problem. Kangaroo hide - should be okay if you really want one. Kylie could be a problem tho. We seem to get into trouble for kidnapping and mailing celebrities to other people. Tho why you'd want a female raises a few questions. :hmm:

Rolf Harris on the other hand...I think Customs would give me an accreditation if I mailed him to you. And yes, I know he lives in the old dart now. ;)

Cool about the trip. Now if you could only learn to email, you could fill me in on all the details.

The Norks
23-11-2005, 12:55:51
I will! I will! I've been v busy with work stuff and being ill and posting here etc lol

Greg W
23-11-2005, 19:33:38
And let me guess, you have a bridge to sell me? :p

The Norks
24-11-2005, 00:48:45
no no, you have to wait, be patient for the gossip to come to ripe fruition and then I shall harvest it for you!

Greg W
24-11-2005, 19:38:04
I believe you. Billions wouldn't, but... ;)
