Yep, definitely, channel 4 was the big thing, and those new fangled video recorders so i could watch the games that were on at unfriendly times (as i was a mere slip of a lad).

I think the giants where champs when i started to get into it, then the redskins won in 87 and i was sold.

then sat through the 49ers dynasty and later the cowboys and then i kind of dropped out of it just around the time the expansion teams arrived.

There was a lack of joy in Bub Slugville as the Chiuauas managed to chase the puck into the net in overtime to end the game at 4-3.

There were hotdogs, there was a hell of a lot of beer consumed, and there was even kubasa. The grass, not allowed into the arena, was very green.

You were beaten by Phoenix. Not only were you beaten by Phoenix, you were beaten by a team that looked physically exhausted by the 3rd period (Calgary worked them hard last night).

Calgary only permitted one of their goals. you're starting to see the beginning of the best defense in the league. Kipper plus our blueline will keep our GA very low.

We just need to kick our offense in gear.

Oilers suck - FACT.

Flames win 3-1, and the one goal Edmonton got was a blatant interference call.

5 consecutive losses for the "City of Champions".

notyoueither
21-10-2005, 03:35:08
Yes, yes... The Oilers managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and lost their fifth straight, to the hated Calgary Chokes. After a great first 30 minutes, where the Chokes looked like a bunch of chimps on skates, but with a concrete barrier in front of the net, the Oilers managed to squander a hard won 1-0 lead and drain the game.

Perhaps the coaches will point out to the players that you can't score with 3 forwards in the corners or behind the net at the same time?

I suppose a few people ate hotdogs. I doubt much beer was consumed, given that most of Calgary are pussies. Not a single piece of kubasa could be found. The grass up in Edmonton died a bit today.

Asher

Look at the past 3 games, Calgary had a very rough road start.

On top of being a bit rusty, they had 4 straight road games...and as any Flame fan knows from the playoffs, they have a way better home record.

Sutter shuffled the lines constantly in the first handful of games to find what works best. Kipprusoff got off to a rocky start but has been on fire since.

Earlier reports are now confirmed. The Oilers suck.

The Colorado Rookies waltzed into Edmonton's building and promptly took the candy away from the little girls who pretend to play hockey. Lost 7-1. Peeyew!

Beer was trown on the ice. The Oilers would do better playing on grass with British school girls.

Not quite true. They went beyond being raped, they seemed to enjoy it.

Lost a lead with 7 minutes to go to lose by 2 goals to the Rookies.

Can't say any beer was consumed, as the game was played in Colorado. I'm sure the locals ate some hotdogs. The grass up in Edmonton is refusing to cooperate. Something about demanding a trade.

notyoueither
06-11-2005, 05:22:35
There seems to have been an inversion of the reality continuum matrix, either that or GM Lowe has managed to substitute the women's team from Niagra for the Oilers.

After beating the North Stars, Pussies, Blue Bellies, Dead Things, and Blues (you can't make the name more descriptive) the Oilers await their date with the pumkin maker when they next meet the North Stars on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Chokes are in last place in the division. Much beer is consumed while we consider the situation.

And our PK unit is finally good again. The Canucks had 2 minutes of a 5 on 3, and they ended up with a single shot on goal that was easily handled.

They suck less than the teams they've been lucky to face. You lucked out that Calgary had to face Anaheim in the first round.

Anaheim in 5.

Asher
18-05-2006, 04:17:33
With my luck, Bryz will suck now that they've been on vacation for so long.

That guy was amazing. :/

Oilers lucked out in that Vesa sucked so much ass this round. Calgary got burned by a phantom call in game 4 with 30s left of a tie game, giving Anaheim the goal just inside OT. And Bryzgalov was amazing, too.

notyoueither
18-05-2006, 04:19:36
You'll notice the Oilers overcame lop-sided penalty time. :)

Of course, the Oilers can score when needed.

Asher
18-05-2006, 04:19:37
The problem is Edmonton hasn't looked solid really all year. They seem flakey.

You got gifted two rounds by abysmal goaltending, and now you're running into a team with two very talented goaltenders [one of which is playing the best hockey of his life] and a very stingy defense.

You've got no chance. Just be happy you made it this far.

Asher
18-05-2006, 04:21:47
Also: Anaheim is playing just like Calgary since January or so, and their record reflects that. Edmonton sucks against Calgary.

Anaheim took Calgary to 7 very close games (with a couple lopsided wins in Calgary's favor), and swept Colorado (a better team than Edmonton). I don't see why you're so confident.

notyoueither
18-05-2006, 04:22:27

Toskala and Nabokov are no second string. We made Tosky look that way. It's part of an offence that can come from any of 12 or so players. You can't check Edmonton, because the scoring can come from any of 4 d and 10 or so forwards. We don't have any weak links, so you have to be better than anyone in the NHL right now to break the chain.

Asher
18-05-2006, 04:24:32
You have to be kidding me, Tosky let in so many softies it wasn't funny. He can't handle the pressure of playoff hockey.

And yeah, you can check Edmonton. Calgary won the season series by doing just that.

Anaheim has four potent D-lines, you've got four decent O-lines. The difference is in the goaltending and defense, and Anaheim has you beat on that through and through.

Asher
18-05-2006, 04:25:04
It is funny though. Calgary's reject goalies in Giguere and Rolly going to be facing eachother.

Asher
18-05-2006, 04:29:12
And people at Poly are being stupid. I never said it'd be a quick and fast first round -- I said it would be close and tough, and the winner of Calgary/Anaheim would win the conference finals, if not the cup itself.

Comments: Hossa and Tverdovsky are pushing and shoving in front of Cam Ward. Tverdovsky's down on a knee and Hossa gives him a cross check. Tverdovsky gets back on his feet and the sticks come up as a crowd gathers. The gloves are shed while grappling and Tverdovsky throws a shot at Hossa who grabs him and starts landing rights, one under and about four over. Tverdovsky turns to attempt to avoid the shots and falls to the ice with Hossa on top. The linesmen are waiting to break it up. The rest of the scrum from before broke up except for Andy Sutton who still has ahold of Erik Cole. Sutton's got his right cocked, but the refs come in while Sutton and Cole continue to chat. Other Penalties: Hossa received a cross checking and roughing; Andy Sutton a roughing and misconduct.
Voted winner: Marian Hossa (98.7%) - Voted rating: 5.1

Another Ukranian.

You're so stupid you can't tell Ukranian flag from Russian?

He's a terrible "champion". Terrible fighter. Only wins because he's 7 fucking feet tall.

That's just nonsense.

It's truth. He's the second most boring fighter ever.

The first one being?

I forget his name. Retired recently. All he did was clutch and grab.

Didn't see the flag, I just looked up who the current heavyweight champion is and found out there's 4 of them, depending who you listen to.

And IIRC, all four of them are ex-Soviets (two Ukranian Klichko brothers, one Russian and one Byelorussian, but I might be wrong about the last one).:p

BS.
Nobody can win simply because he is 7 fucking feet tall.
Being big doesn't automatically mean you can survive a couple of minutes on the ring. Being big doesn't automatically make you a champion, you need a skill, endurance and willpower for that.
He might be boring, I agree, but if his style works (43 fights total, ALL WON, 31 won by knock-out), who cares?

He's got a tremendous reach and size advantage. That makes a HUGE difference in boxing strategy. With that much of an advantage he doesn't need to be skillful. He can jab from range and no one can stop him from clutching or grabbing because he's too big and strong. He's not a good fighter. He's a physical freak which gives him tremendous advantage over his opponents. And he's boring. Before he destoyed Beck, hHe barely beat his last 2 opponents on controversial decisions. I have no doubt he rung up most of his knockouts on poor inner city St Petersberg bums, fighting for pierogis and toilet paper.

Now the Klitschko brothers, they're good fighters. With skill and strategy combined.

Don't feel bad, it's not like boxing has had a lot of great fighters since the 80s (at least in the Heavyweight division). Lennox Lewis was a boring boxer too. That's way boxing is about as popular as horse racing.

1) But he did knoked-out Beck in the third round.
2) I gave you his official WBA statistic, that means all 43 fights he won were fine according to WBA standards.
3) I witnessed few times how a huge guy has been chopped down by much smaller, but more skillful foe. My coach had to knock down a guy who was 30kg heavier and 20cm taller than he was to win the Russian Taekwondo chamiponship (sure, it's not boxing, but still, this rule works at any martial arts - being big, doesn't mean you will win, you need skill, endurance and willpower). Valuev is boring, YES, he is GOD DAMN boring, and he has an andvantage of weight and height, but he is effective. He will not become a legend of boxing for sure, but on the other hand, Don King doesn't work with suckers.
Now the Klitschko brothers, they're good fighters. With skill and strategy combined.
And aside Valuev, both of them have lost fights in their list, and iirc both of them, again aside Valuev, were KO.
But the funny thing is that Valuev challenged Vladimir Klichko, but got a refusal from his manager. As for me, that sounds like a chicken behaviour :p
Valuev might be tall, big and dumb (he is dumb indeed, even for boxer :) ), but he just do what he do the best - he kicks everyone arses. That's all.

Vladmir was injured, couldn't fight and has susequently forfeited his belt and retired.

I'd love to see Valuev fight the younger Klichko.

That's all I said. That he was the second most boring fighter ever. Thanks for playing. Good night and Good Luck.

I think the last thing he thinks when he fight, is to impress the spectators. His style is effective for knocking down the foes, the impression he makes on public while doing so, is irrelevant for him.

Just because he's the champ doesn't mean he's a good fighter.
Nonsense. He's the champ, 'cause he is the best NOW, and nobody else can knock him out. That automatically makes him a good fighter (not spectacular, but effective).

If there was more quality in the Heavyweight division he wouldn't be champ.
