So some people in America don't know their geography. Some people in England can't read. Some people in Japan can't do maths. It's not big news and nothing to be scared of.

My favourite part of Private Eye is the "Stupid Britains" column that lists all the moronic answers people have given on quiz shows in the preceding weeks. Dumb people are just plain funny!

Leno has a lot of these, a favorite of mine, on July 4, American independance day, Jay asked a blonde chick what event Independance day celibrated, her answer:

"Uh, Thanksgiving?"

Radio interview with random Burgenlandian today:

"On sunday, there are state parliament elections. What will be elected that day?"

"The federal chancellor"

That one is almost as good as the old one in the 80s where the guy went to a religious protest against abortion and asked what Genesis was. More people knew the Band than the book in the bible.

There seem to be a lot more people who are geographically illiterate in the US then in other first world countries.

You are one America hating sonofabitch.

And I'd bet it's pretty average the (first) world over.

Oh god, Australia is fucked. We're either Iran, Korea or France, and apparently we're next in line either way.

No, most of the world teaches geography classes in school.

We teach kids that its ok to be failing losers instead of kicking them in the balls and failing them.

We do the same in the UK. I read an article not long ago about how it was planned to reclassify exam failures as "deferred successes". What a load of bullshit.

(That probably ... hopefully .. won't actually happen though. It was a just a theory some nutjob was throwing around. Pretty sad state of affairs when stuff like that is even considered IMHO)

I'd pay to see Rick Mercer talking to Euros.

He did manage to get a member of Congress to sign a petition to stop Canadians from casting our old folks adrift on ice floes when they were used up.

Geography isn't much better in China either. Sometimes I think that's the reason for all the border disputes and territorial claims.

Prowincja? Whatever happened to województwo?

LoD
11-10-2005, 16:08:36
Województwo signifies a smaller administrative area than prowincja, plus prownicja may have slightly pejorative conotations :D.

Now what interests me is how do you, Dyl, know to spell województwo correctly. I'm thinking either:
-you have expanded your field of "research" to include Central European law.
-you've got yourself a Polish girlfriend.

So which one is it gonna' be :D?

Nice that you still have duchies. :D
