We've just got a last minute gig playing at Po Na Na tonight, on at 8:30.

Haven't rehearsed for a couple of weeks with the drummer so it will be interesting. :D

Update. Doors @ 8:15, we'll be on about 8:45. £3, mention you saw it in blah blah or berkshire live to get £1 off.

As if rehearsal would make any difference. Polishing a turd comes to mind.

You can polish a turd but you can't polish diarrhea.

Not quite true: if first frozen, then one may indeed apply a high gloss finsh to a diarrhoeal chip or pat, especially if one uses a sugar/egg white glaze.

It may also then be used to substitute for florentine confectioneries, especially in areas such as Knightsbridge, South Kensington, Holland Park.

Funnily enough, that's exactly what I said.

Po Na Na is an awful place to play, I dont think any band could do well there. We've been absolutley shocking when we played there.

If the sound had been ok they'd have got away with not playing as well as they could, but as it was it just sounded rubbish.
Although it did get better towards the end.

Yeah, the whole set up there just doesn't lend itself to live music I dont think.

For a start, its the wrong shape...

Everyone sucks at po na na, fact. Though it sounds like Muf better get a few practices in before they support us at the Boxing Club if they don't want to be shown up too much...

We haven't actually had a rehearsal with the whole band there for nearly a month so it was bound to be a bit loose at first. We played the second half of the set ok I think but apparently the sound was rubbish.

I didn't think the venue was that bad, stage sound was shoddy but not the worst ever. No worse than Colorz used to be when Laurel and Hardy first started doing it. Daily Dose sounded alright front of house when they were on after us.

Anyway, it didn't matter 'cause virtually no-one was there when we played. :D

In comparison with contemporary local venues - the Cellar Bar and Rising Sun pub were both much harder to play I thought.

Bizarrely, although I thought I'd hate it and it'd be really hard, I've really enjoyed our two BBBs gigs and think they sounded pretty good both onstage and off (at least in part thanks to protein...)

I quite enjoyed our gig at the Cellar Bar, but it was our first show so I had nothing to compare it with (except for impact), and I was also standing right by that massive wall-mounted stage monitor. The Rising Sun pub does look horrible to play at, but I doubt we will so it doesn't concern me greatly.

Po Na Na was awful the first time for me because I couldn't hear myself at all, just drums (we played there the first time they did it, and they had the drums in the middle of that raised bit rather than in the corner like they do now). The second time I could only hear myself, cymbals, and Gramercy so it was a bit better, but not much. Also the first time we played there the stage was almost totally dark which was slightly problematic.

I suppose it's possible that they are getting better as they go with the onstage sound...

Unfortunately we didn't have any hangers on when we soundchecked to tell us it was sounding shit front of house. I think my distorted guitar sound was the main culprit from what Tizzy said afterwards... ah well, that's always been a bit of a problem.

I also quite enjoyed the Cellar Bar, but it wasn't an easy venue to play. I think Al is good at getting good front of house sound though. You guys sounded pretty good there anyway.

I am very much looking forward to playing with the Palestinians on the 11th November at the Boxing Club in Reading though.

Apparently the Boxing Club has blood stains on the stage/ring, and smell like a school changing room (ie Lynx and sweat). Oh the glamour...

Funko

ie. It's a boxing club and the stage is a boxing ring.
