The Hawking Paradox
Has Stephen Hawking been wrong for the last 30 years?

Worth reading thought if you missed it. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/horizon/hawking_prog_summary.shtml)

If anyone know a decent layman's text explaining it I'd be grateful. Still can't envisage how matter squeezed to oblivion can still hold all the information it had before.

Why is he trying to prove that information is not lost in black holes if, by the sounds of it, that Argentinian guy has already proven it?

He was trying to prove it was lost.

"But to the surprise of many in the audience he was not at the conference to defend his long held belief that information was lost in black holes, instead he claimed that he could now prove the opposite"

Hmm, so matter gets crushed then dissolves as radiation? Sounds pretty tidy to me, black holes are matter disposal facilities. Gotta have them somewhere else the universe would be full of black holes.
