Remember when you had a choice over which search engine you used? I no longer use anything other than google. Are those other one's still around? Like Yahoo, and altavist.

Yahoo is supposed to be expanding to twice the size of google.

My home page is Google, but I occassionally use others. Have Copernic installed on the PC too.

Google. It's the only one that matters for me. When you have a website, you want it to appear on Google.

Hotbot was the best before they got bought out by Lycos and Google came out. Now they just blow. Deja News is still good for the news groups but little else. Webcrawler and meta search both blow though askjeeves is interesting just because you can ask it questions instead of doing key word searches. There are a bunch of smaller ones which do meta searches but I don't really know the differences between them.

I still use ASK but feel it is not as good as it was. When I first came across it, it seemed to make a genuine attempt to analyse the question, and come up with something relevant. These days all it seems to do is look for sites with the words you entered, on them.

I used to use altavista, but have been using only google since I got in the new job 4 years ago.

I was really puzzled and amazed last week when I saw a colleague using yahoo for a search, I thought: "WHAT... what the HELL is he DOING????"

:o :cute:

I thought Google took over the newsgroups from Deja ages ago.

Almost always google, very occasionally Altavista.

Altavista has an image search which is up to Google standard, if not better.

Excite and Teoma have that relevancy thing which might become quite useful for searching more obvious things, especially if its been utterly googlebombed. But Google is still the king of the long tail.
