Well it would have to be my particular idiosyncratic kind of hostelry of course... I did see Gil Scott Heron perform at a pub/club in Manchester in 1984 or thereabouts by the way....

I recall our student union cafe jukebox had some fun tunes in the mid-eighties- Cocteau Twins, Killing Joke, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Kraftwerk and so on.

I recall too that one of Bowie's singles from 'Heroes' had the jolly instrumental 'Sense of Doubt' on the B side- it has same life affirming quality that Nico and Eno's live version of 'The End' has.

Goes down well after Grace Jones's 12" mix of 'She's Lost Control'....

in Vegas we have those new fangled jukeboxes that allow you to download songs.

I haven't been brave enough to try to learn how to use them yet. But I have seen a guy play Metallica- No remorse from it. So it probably has a pretty good selection (considering it seems to have access to the internet or some huge database). One of these days, I'll try to figure it out.

21-08-2005, 09:01:05
I forgot about Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd . Oh well.

And aside from my list, devilmunchkin has the best list on here. :) And she put one of my favourite Tool songs on her list. I thought about including that one, but I like Third Eye a little more.

Who said it was their best song ;) . The thread is which top 10 tunes would you put on a juke box, not what are your top 10 favourite songs.

Personally Patience and November Rain are my fave GnR songs but when considering juke box fodder the likes of Paradise City and Sweet Child O' Mine are better for folk to sing along to. Likewise i'm not a big Bon Jovi or Bryan Adams fan but Living on a Prayer and Summer of 69 are great slur along to songs when you've had a shandy too many :D .

Most of my fave music would be poor on a juke box to be honest.

27-08-2005, 09:30:54
and what did I just say about downloading songs on modern jukeboxes. You guys should go to more modern pubs. :). My list stands. I'm not going to play popular tunes.

personally, Civil War is my favourite GNR song.

27-08-2005, 21:45:13
I agree Civil War is a great song, personally I prefer the two I mentioned but I must say Civil war is definately up there.

At the end of the day though Juke box songs are not supposed to be your faves, they are supposed to be good sing along songs that most people will know. The stuff you stick on your walkman, ipod or whatever personal music device you have should be what you personally prefer to listen to.

Juke boxes in pubs are things that you stick some cheese on when you're a bit pi55ed for a bit of fun ;) .

27-08-2005, 21:55:47
Don't Cry is Guns'n'Roses best song in my opinion, but then I think that the Spaghetti Incident is their best album so that doesn't count for much.

27-08-2005, 22:10:54
Album wise I preferred Appetite for destruction and Lies.

27-08-2005, 22:34:56
Appetite all the way. I would say illusion I and II, but there were just too many bad songs. They should have just had 1 album and got rid of the crappy songs. But of course they made more money releasing 2 albums...

Scabrous Birdseed
06-09-2005, 08:23:56
Right. Realistic, realistic, realistic...

The Tornadoes - Telstar
The Four Tops - It's The Same Old Song
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Sun is Shining
Junior Murvin - Police & Theives
The Skatalites - Guns of Navarone
Mink De Ville - Spanish Stroll
Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer
David Bowie - Heroes
Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freek On

and to annoy everyone on here while I happily groove along...

Akon - Lonely

(All, save the last, are songs I've actually seen on pub jukeboxes. I had a bugger of a time trying to remember them though so that's why the list isn't quite as broad as I'd like.)
