Anyone else see the first parts of the latest hyped American drama 'Lost' on C4 last night? I expect i'll be watching next week as it's already got lots of intriguing character and plot scenarios going on and it's all a bit surreal in places too!

Fun series but hardly any forward motion.

I watched next weeks episode on E4 'cause I'm not in next week. :)

And so many goddamn adverts. :bash:

Stupid American hour programs that are only 40 mins.

Nills Lagerbaak

It was rammed full of adverts, which is probably why I couldn't get any kind of atmosphere going. Next time I'll have to spark up a fatty and see if that helps....

The character development in that is good

Walrus Feeder
11-08-2005, 21:14:12
Hmm, that's an idea - record it then fast-forward through the ads and hey, you've saved yourself 20 minutes.

Funko
12-08-2005, 10:41:19
And it's slow because a lot of it is tension building suspense.

Nills Lagerbaak
12-08-2005, 11:24:11
which is cool, but then another damn ad break. Ads work with programs like blind da date, not Lost

Pheuw. Now seen up to 2x05. It's much better without the adverts, but the lack of any sort of conclusion to anything is getting a bit annoying. The characters all fail to ask the right questions of anyone, and fail to respond in a useful way to anything that happens.

Walrus Feeder
23-10-2005, 14:53:05
I agree, the story turns one way then stops and leads you onto another. i find the most satisfying part the bit right at the end of the credits when the production screen flashes up and goes, "BAD ROBOT!" Childish but fun!

The last few have been a bit better actually. The characters seem to have got past the "finding the questions" stage and are on to "understanding the questions" bit. Hopefully we'll get to the finding and understanding of at least some of the answers before the end of season two. :/

Allegedly because the 'action' has taken place in the course of only a few weeks.

Obese Wan Doughboy certainly needs a haircut, and emergency liposuction.

Otherwise I envisage him either eating or enveloping the others in rolls of hanging skin, as his fat reserves are consumed... like a great hairy amoeboid or like the bouncing ball from 'The Prisoner'.

Immortal Wombat
26-11-2005, 17:21:22
I think there's actually been a brief shot of someone having a haircut at some point. There were scissors and razors and stuff in the luggage. Looking good is always essential, even when you're stuck on a desert island.

I'm glad this week's episode is about the big fella. Tis about time he stopped being 'the annoying blimp in the backround'. And I want to see what sort of damage he can do to boars with his vastness.
I saw him in one of those really crappy american sitcoms the other day, dunno which one it was though. It had Ted Danson in. Probably something with a really imaginative title like The Ted Danson Show, summit clever like.
Anyway, he didn't do to much in that either, just stand and loiter.

the problem with lost is that with all the tension built into the 'ooh everything's secret and mysterious' thing, as soon as the secrets are revealed it's a massive anticlimax

as far as i can work out, the writers seem to be skirting this issue by not ever really revealing anything

btw i don't watch it but everyone is always talking about it at work

Series two is easily as good as series one, if not better. Stuff actually happens. That bit Venom just described in his spoiler sounds a bit rubbish, but was actually really good, and fairly tense for a family oriented show.

My theory with Lost is that there is nothing crazy going on on the island at all, it's just that all the plants are hallucinogenic and they haven't realised it yet. Not really.

I'm kind of hooked as well, after watching the first serie on DVD and downloading the rest. Waiting for ep 16.

I'm hooked but also pretty irritated at times. The irritating "moahai boaibiii" yelling australian gets on my nerves, as Charlie is. Sayid, Echo but above all Lockeand Sawyer are very enjoyable though.

What pisses me the most is their inability to really organise themselves, and use everybody's ability. You have about 40 people around, with various skills and abilities, and most days are spent at the beach, with only a small clique wandering around, at times. Organise a militia, patrol the island, do something for fik sake!

Oh, thanks for the table...
Well, that confirms both our versions.

FoX must be a private, satellite, encrypted channel, nothing I have access to. I have no actual data, but I figure FoX it's neither accessible to the "wide" public, despite you do see may "parables" on the italian roofs.

RaiDue is one of the national, publicly broadcasted in clear and for free (~) channels. I wonldn't call that a re-run as the previous was only accessible to a NICHE audience. (MOST of the national audience do not even KNOW which programs are on, on satellite. I didn't even know that FoX itself was one of the available ones on satellite :cute: :D)

The starting date of March 6 2006 makes sense. Last monday was the 10th week, and indeed at 2 episodes per Monday as I had figured, I realise now I just saw ep 19 & 20, followed indeed by "Lost: the Journey" recap.

I see Italy comes good last in the Lost world :) along with Israel, Chile and Latvia :D

I missed taping (yes, taping!) the second or third Season Two episode so I managed to go the whole season without getting any spoilers and bought the box set when it came out. Mrs. BGH and I watched it in right quick fashion and are loving it.
My experience with watching the S3E1 on tv taught me something that may explain why some of you don't care for it as much: commercials completely destroy the atmosphere and tension. If you watch this show sans commercials, it is pitch perfect IMO.
I think it will be another good season (fingers crossed) but worry that the networks and the soon to be up their ass actors (Ana Lucia anyone?) will probably start taking their toll and ruin it.
I'm praying that they maintain their integrity and come up with a great, plausible conclusion.
I've seen so many theories...all of them plausible in some remote sense.
I lean toward the concept that some catastrophic event has occurred in the world and the island is a "re-breeding" ground of some sort. Also that the castaways are not in the time/condition that they think they are (transplanted memories, time-shift to the future type stuff).
Very creative and unique and I'm quite fine with it following its own pace and not being anything like we've seen before. Embrace the otherness.

of course I'm naive and easily pleased, I'm not smart enough to understand all your criticism
one thing tho, it now feels like they're explaining too much mysteries all at once, I preferred it when it was a bit more obscure.

I got to the episode where in the end Charlie dives and emerges in the sub station

PS: my cowies instead have it downloaded on their PC / DVD, they're ahead of me and enjoy to torture me by discussing loudly some episode I've yet to watch, so every now and then I must storm out of the room with hands on my ears, shouting lalalalalalala.....

Public TV (RAI) is going to be around 2009 I think. Sky usually makes a rerun before their exclusive rights expire.

it now feels like they're explaining too much mysteries all at once, I preferred it when it was a bit more obscure

Yup. But they are adding new mysteries, don't worry :D

Yep.

It's pretty obvious how it's going to play out, but it's done well.

(Except for the CG'd ship at the end, which looks lame)

Season 5 finale that was right? So, yes, the Oceanic Six do make it off the island and then end up washing up in South East Asia. We also find out how some of the others don't make it and who the person in the coffin is.

Mystery still surrounds what the island is still about and how it affects certain people. There didn't seem to be much mention of the significance of Hurley's numbers though and it'll surely take the duration of the next series to discover the truth about Ben, 'Jacob,' Charles Widmore and....

oh, well

one thing nags me
I have a flash in my memory about a scene where Faraday tells Desmond "when your moment will come, cut the green one", likely when they were parting, can't recall whether in the past, or on the island shore.
IIRC tho Desmond never returns on the island after leaving with the helicopter

so, in the last episode, when they examine the wirings on the bomb, I was so expecting Desmond to solve it easily...

bah...
it's also possible that I confused it with some other series or movie recollection....
