I'm going to be installing Linux on my:

AMD 2100+
GeForce 3
1GB RAM

What would be the best Distro for general use: internet, messaging etc....

I've heard good things about Mandrake, Lycoris and Red Hat?

Ubuntu.

Trust me, Ubuntu.

I hate Linux, I've gone through like 8 distros, and Ubuntu is the only one I can stand. Try it first.

I've 'bought' several distros. Could never be arsed to install one. :clueless:

Wow!

I'm impressed. Installed it on a college machine and it's very fast. Managed to recognise all the hardware too.

Taking this home to install tonight!

Ubuntu is the only one to install on my laptop correctly, automatically.

I also have nothing but good things to say about Ubuntu.

I have it installed on one of my older machines, and though I have yet to install Wine and get non-Linux apps running on it, it does everything I need it to do right off the bat with ease of use.

I've also heard good things about Slackware, but I know shit about Linux to really say.

Had one or two problems regarding a Sitecom USB modem and an ADSL BT 105 Modem. Hopefully I can get everything working this week. Looks like I'm going to have to compile my own drivers :(

Woohoo 'eciadsl' sorted my ADSL problem out. Yay, Linux works fully now.
