View Full Version : What TV series do you follow?

Scabrous Birdseed

What TV shows have you followed in, say, the last six months? I mean followed as in tried to watch every episode if you can, and planned your schedule around the programme.

For me it's just been:

Desperate Housewives
The Wire
Soul Deep/Sommarsoul (loosely connected soul programs)

and most embarassingly...

America's Next Top Model

Deperate Housewives. Although I still missed about half of it!

And Dr Who, with the same result.

And I suppose I have to include Big Brother, I've watched that most nights.

Like K_G, I can't think of anything I watch religiously. I probably watch Corrie more than any other programme and occassionally some of the interesting stuff they show on Channel 4 post-9pm. I watched a fair bit of BB til Science left too.

Oh and I've seen both episodes of Extras so far.

edit: Missed Extras last night cos we watched Kes. A wise choice.

Yes. The first time you see it you think it's like a children's show, then you love it.

One of them paints and designs all the characters, the other one writes and records all the muisc. It's all pretty psychadelic stuff. Infact, it all reminds me of the acid and bedsit days.

New series:

I used to watch Oz, but Channel 4 seemed to be trying to hide it under a rock.

Now I watch Deadwood, and that's about the only thing I make a point of watching. I'll make a point of watching Spooks if a new series emerges.

ohhhhh and Life as we Know it, which I think is the best and most honest teen show for years (knocks Dawson's crack out of the water). Kelly Osborne is an excellent actress (as are they all) to my surprise, and the whole cast are actually teenagers and not 30 year olds dressed as teenagers which is refreshing. It allows me to wallow in teen angst for an hour and lust after the gorgeous 18 yr old Tom Cruise lookalike without feeling too sordid. Yum!

I can't decide whether I liked it or not. I hope it can tread the fine line between Lynchian unease (Twin Peaks) and gratuitous weirdness (Kingdom hospital).

I think there might be some kind of bermuda triangle scenario, or a wormhole or something. Hmm..

I thought it was quite good. They could have easily condensed it into half an hour though. I kept thinking "get on with it"!

During the episode I saw, I went off, had a poo, made myself a cup of tea, checked my emails and wandered around the house for a bit and missed nothing.

Is it me or is the supposedly Iraqi actor actually the British Indian guy who was in Buddha of Suburbia? Why couldn't they employ an arabic looking man?

As I'm ashamd to admit that I've been a TV series addict over the years, recently I haven't been following anyone that seriously.
Besides, series which get here are usually 1 to 3 years late wrt the modern anglophone world....

Anyway, only one I have been planning my schedule around recently was Alias. And Enterprise, but we got that in summer/fall 2004.

Oh. and.
I'm collecting TNG on DVD, albeit I don't have a DVD viewer... :o

Housewives, yeah

Lost, new season begins 9/21, and I am excited

Amazing Race, new episodes end of the month

Big Brother, gets me through summer

I've been enjoying 5 Takes on the Travel Channel, but it's almost over. I also like anything with Anthony Bourdaine.

Wifey watches CSI (all but NY) and ER, so I end up watching them

I like that new Prison Break TV show on Monday nights, and will probably continue with it

Watched the first 3 episodes last night. Forgot how damned good that show is...man, especially without commercials...very very good...I like how they've taken their time with the character development.
I'd seen most of the "character story" episodes and dropped it when it started to go into the "island secrets" mode...so there is a lot to still surprise me.
DVD is well done, if not a little sparse seeming..though I haven't looked into many extra features as I'm afraid I'll see stuff I don't want to yet.
Sad...this is the high point of my year so far.

update
In Italy, Desperate Housewives began yesterday, saw some bits, not actually interested. It felt like watching a jam-session with actors recycled from other series I saw! :D

Lost began advertising with just "coming soon"

ER, the last season with Dr.Carter, was scheduled to begin last sunday but got postponed b/c of EuroVolley final, which Italy won as hosts

I watched it, I'm afraid I'll spend the next monday nights at home.. :)

In teh meanwhile we had OZ, but they aired it past midnight, saw some very short bit, not bad but didn't justify the wake

Then I saw some CSI:NY, not as good as LV and Miami IMHO.
And the new seasons of Nip/Tuck and OC ("new" here, I think they're the 3rd), saw some sparse episode when there wasn't anything better

OH, of course I'm enjoying the rerun of Voyager 1st season, which I had missed, and can't wait for the the final episodes of Enterprise which were suspended when the plot had grown thicker and most interesting.

Haven't they recently announced that Lost will run until 2060 or something? Glad I didn't get started on that one to be honest.

I have recently enjoyed (to my surprise) Derren Brown's Trick Or Treat. I happened across it while waiting for Peep Show which follows. Unfortunately though, that has been quite a disappointment. Veers wildly between not funny and OTT. A few comedic moments between times but not to previous standards. The Health Club episode was probably the pick of a bad bunch. Should have left it at 3.

... these are my relentless Friday nights in.

Lost has 48 more episodes after this season, which they will drag out into 3 seasons. However, they will run each set of 16 episodes "24" style with no repeats. The question is, will people be willing to wait between seasons?

Ugly Betty I tried to watch for nearly a full season but the creators had this irritating habit of creating a bunch of interesting conflicts, and then killing them off one by one. As soon as something that caused a bit of drama appeared, you'd be sure it had become we're-all-a-happy-family three episodes later.

The creators also have that annoying habit of creating what basically amounts to hour-long television installments of those celebrity gossip magazines. If it wasn't clear enough before, I find the show the most repugnant, patronising, cliched type of drivel I've seen in a long time. I get the impression it thinks its a clever, highly moral show too, which makes it all the worse. Especially as it fails on both of those counts.

I have no problem with disregarding anybody who watches it with any enjoyment.

But, worst are the people who view it via some morbid fascination and then have the audacity to criticse it afterwards. :cute:
