Did anyone hear Ken Linigstone on the Channel 4 news last night? It is so reassuring to know that the mayor of London knows exaclty what's going on. I make particular reference to his explanation of the Cleric who "condoned suicide bombings", shame some of our other politicians don't have the balls to say some of the stuff he did. There should be a transcription of what he said.

I have to admit that after watching the (excellent) Channel 4 coverage of this I am feeling a little bad about some of the stuff I was arguing with you about.

Yeah, it's very good. Ken is aware of the real issues and the bigger picture, what is sad is that the Government must also know all this, but as they are interested in politics they lie and spin things all over the place. More people like Ken please!

Channel 4 news is generally very good. Much better than BBC, Sky or ITN.

No matter how many times I visit this thread I still think it's going to be about Kenny Loggins.

Yes. I agree.

Let's hope that Fox news don't get hold of that tape. They'll edit it and make out that the mayor of London funds terrorism.

Basically Mr Livingstone said:

I been working so hard
Keep punching my card
Eight hours, for what?
Oh, tell me what I got
I get this feeling
That time's just holding me down
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town
Tonight I gotta cut
Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise
Pull me offa my knees
Jack, get back
C'mon before we crack
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose

Ah, thanks, hardly a summary, but pretty good.

Thing is that if the past hadn't been like that then the West (esp US) woudn't be so rich, powerful, influential, and the USSR probably would be instead.

But the main point is that you can't change the past, you have to work out the best route from where you are to where you want to be.

A subject for debate rather than death and mutilation.

From memory:

1. Muslim cleric (can't remember his name) was accused of "supporting suicide bombers". C4: How can you still be talking to this man"
Ken: Actually what he said was that he Supports the Palestinians' right to fight back. They wish they had fighter jets and helicopters to take the army on, but actually the only waepon they have is their bodies.
Lots of very elloquent stuff about the demonisation of suicide attacks in the tabloids and how this is used to lever Blair's case. Also how press ignores humanitarian abuses of Israel.

Doesn't directly link attacks in London to Iraq, rather it's been a long standing campaign since he was young starting with America dominance and politcs for oil in the region, Israel, and Iraq.

And finally a reminder that we taught the mujahadeen, told them to (almost word for word) seak out and bomb the infadel (russians) to rid your land of them. And he isn't surprised that once the Russians were gone, they might apply that thinking to the other foreign influence.

More to it than that. It's also about understanding and changing double standards.

How can we be a multi-cultural society when one person's life is worth more than another to the point we continue to victimise a race of people, who make up a large part of our country.,

It's all part of that "best route" to a destination.

Gary, how does anyone wkow what the best route to something is? How arrogant.

I think it's a lot of pc crap to think it's just because of politics, and ignoring the fundamental religious problem.

These guys are a unique brand of Islam that is detatched from the normal muslim faith.

The time it has taken to mature is apporximately the same as after the first world war. Coincedence? I don't think so.

There is no fundamental undelying religious difference that wasn't triggered by the West anyway.

Yeah, not through manipulation and opression.

That's what I was saying in that other thread when you were away. Having seen more young muslims talking about it recently I think it's both.

The ringleaders have this fundamentalist viewpoint but the recruited bombers (well the british ones anyway) are definitely easier to recruit 'cause of current foriegn policy and the general middle east situation.

Nills Lagerbaak
20-07-2005, 12:49:30
Yeah, definitely.

The sad thing is that politicians have always found some other way of denying that it's their foeign policy that is ultimately to blame and they're doing it right now. They will never change their minds as long as there is financial gain.

Back in the day they took the most fundamental foocked up nutters and taught them how to kill, how to form networks, and now it's really coming back to get them.

If we'd done what Ken suggested post WWI we'd have lost WWII - no way we could have continued without control of the Middle East oil supplies. Otherwise, I agree with him.
