The Norks

because if they can post things about us burning with fear, its rather satisfying to stick two fingers up at them and laugh in their faces

well my avatar looks a bit afraid

Very childish if you ask me.

Mr. G your avatar is one of the most heart rending things I ever saw. If that's not a case for the RSPCA, I don't know what is

I've no idea who we are sending the massage to other than ourselves for reassurance.

I kinda feel that way too, but folk seem to hold value for the strangest of things. Each to their own.

PS try to find interesting pictures on sites not blocked from work :(

why is it childish for people to want to show solidarity after a tragedy, and yes to support each other and show support for victims? Some of the entries are brilliant little bits of art, and its all non violent non offensive 'silent protest' which even if the bombers don't read it is a nice way of reinforcing how people are feeling.

The site is also raising money for the bomb victims fund.

The point, I think, is that drawing attention to how unafraid you are is implicitly acknowledging that there is something to be afraid of. It isn't reinforcing what people are feeling - it is reinforcing what people are not feeling. Why not start a website at werenotoverjoyed.com, or werenotsurprised.com , or werenotincontinent.com, or werenotbittersarcasticbastards.com.

I can't help thinking a better site would have been weareafraid.com, where people submit pictures of things which actually do scare them. Like clowns, and fears of becoming impotent.

fp
15-07-2005, 13:01:58
Exactly, sites like that seem to be saying "We're only saying we're not afraid to cover up how afraid we are."

Most people who aren't afraid don't feel the need to go on and on and on about how unafraid they are all the time. They just get on with things.

Not that there's anything wrong with that site, though. I don't mean to knock it - free speech and all that, people can say what they like. I don't think there's anything wrong with admitting you're afraid though.

Personally, I think it's quite a nice expression of support, the wording of the message shouldn't be quibbled over too much.

The Norks
15-07-2005, 13:47:10
yeah- i don't think it was meant to be analysed so heavily

I think we should submit the mike and nikhil pic lol

'they're not afraid.......of man love'

how is posting a picture from you computer any sign of bravery?

Vincent
16-07-2005, 06:44:17
I'm usually too lazy to be brave.

And how can you be brave without being afraid? Isn't that just stupdity?
