got this email from thet Physics Graduate Chair

"Two items .....

1) At present, we have a very long waiting list for Fall TA positions. You are strongly encouraged to seek RA support.

2) I have been contacted by a high school principal in Silver Spring who is looking for full time or part time physics teachers. Because of the TA shortage you are encouraged to apply. If you are interested, please let me know if and I will provide contact information."

I know that I am far far down on that watiing list

so basically I never will get a TA again, and since I don't have an RA right now..

Could you preemptively apply to all the companies which hire physicists? That way you might be able to beat some of the other grad students to finding a job.

Being a grad student really sucks if you don't get enough support from the uni.

Sounds like they mismanaged the number of students they accepted and are now trying to drive some out. Not cool.

Many grad programs have an obligation to support you for a year or so in the absence of a TA or RA.

they promised us support for the first two years..

which I thought was nice

but since I have been here 3 years...
