Around 21 Labour MPs are expected to join a revolt over the scheme and back a rebel amendment.

But that would not mean defeat the Government, whose majority was slashed from 167 to 66 at the General Election. :( (http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-13378090,00.html)

Wonder what the amendment is anyway ? I can't see a flawed imposition like this being corrected by a mere amendment.

It's a disgrace. I am going to write to my MP about this actually (although I am not sure how he voted). The funny thing is though, you know how taxi drivers think they know how to run the country? Well my MP seems to be that coming to fruition - he used to be a cabbie

Home Secretary Charles Clarke told MPs ID cards would help counter, not create, a "big brother society"."Syme bit off another fragment of the dark-coloured bread, chewed it briefly, and went on: 'Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought?

But they weren't deemed worthy enough of being in power - so it's all their fault.

Though that Clark quotation is more double-think than Newspeak... :)
