It is an American matter - as such I have no input on it.

Whatever. I watched fishermen protestors in Nfld (or was it NS?) burn a Canadian flag. I didn't really give a damn, despite the fact that I'm a fairly "patriotic" person...

If they pass this I'm going to burn an American flag the next time I visit home. :)

Why do you guys vote in such retards?

If actions (which speak louder than words ?) are included in the expression "free speech" then of course it will "run afoul ".

"I may not agree with you burning our country's flag, but I'll defend..." etc..

Hey, I just thought of some legit input.

If it will be illegal to burn the flag, will it be OK to piss on it - to put a fire out? Or at least stop a potential fire from happening?

Everyone should be for fag protection laws.

Burn the flag, we'll make more. Burn the Koran, we'll print more.

ridiculous- if anything it will just encourage people to burn it more as it will heighten the protest aspect of it.

What if you were trapped in a flag factory and freezing to death? Could you burn them for warmth or would you be expected to die for freedom, liberty and the American way?

What if you were having dinner with the president and you need a shit, except that the first lady had neglected to restock the lavatory with toilet paper and all there was was the flag.

Would you wipe your ass with it or would you be expected to stink of shit at the dinner table?

Of course not. You warm yourself with that fuzzy feeling of national pride and superiority, and if you're a real patriot you think of the pathetic rest of of the world and soil yourself at the thought.

Own goal. Everyone knows you would just ask to borrow the Fox News staff fromt eh president for a few minutes.

Put that rim job to good use.

"A divided Supreme Court ruled Thursday that local governments may seize people's homes and businesses against their will for private development"

So now the peasants (aka the middle class) can be expropriated at will to serve the interests of the oligarchs. Congrats!

"Ask the men and women who stood on top of the [World] Trade Center," said Rep. Randy [Duke] Cunningham, R-California. "Ask them and they will tell you: pass this amendment."

:hmm: ok, what the fuck has this got to do with burning a flag exactly?

i think those people would more strongly support a bill making it illegal to fly fucking planes into office buildings*

* literal minded idiots may stay their hand in response to this

I think they'd be more likely to say "Get us the fuck out of here now!"

Thats nothing new. We have had laws like that on the books for 200 years. The gov't has always been allowed to take your land if they pay fair compensation (i.e. the market value or better). This is because of the urban renewal projects where they are trying to rebuild slums and allowing private contracts to do it. For a while in NY the people that lived there were allowed to live in the new places for the same rents. Thats why there was no urban renewal. They did away with that and people took it to federal court.

In the public interest, yes. But now it's been opened up to anything that provides tax revenue or jobs as public interest. So your home can be taken away to make room for the next walmart.
