But do you trust MS with your furtive stolen (err.. I mean legitimately downloaded) MP3s and PC info ? :D (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/06/16/filesharing_microsoft/)

That's really interesting, nice solution.

That's so simple yet so brilliant.

That'll wind up including DRM on both the software and hardware side thanks to Intel finally jumping on the DRM bandwagon with the 945 and 955 chipsets (although some still deny it exist, others have said it does - and given their old roadmaps, it should).

I should hope they don't use people's own computers and electricity to check up on them. The RIAA is more likely to do that than Microsoft. I'm suspicious of top-to-bottom DRM, but hopefully PC vendors won't push PCs to consumers that are completely locked down, only allowing certified data to pass.

Well Dell ships only Intel, and all of Intel's 945 and 955 chipsets have multiple DRM protocols up the wazoo and more can be unlocked through driver revisions from what I gathered from solid and not so solid resources. So that means at least Dell is going DRM sooner rather than later. AMD's Pacifica is their codename for their DRM architecture and it's looming to be coming up on the roadmaps rather soon last I checked - given AMD's record though, roadmaps don't mean squat.
