Imagine my surprise!

Pete & The Pirates: Savior
Starts up like one of my favourite Beechwood Sparks tracks, ends up with a kind of Sister Ray droney rock out. It's a corker - a big fat download that's well worth with the wait.

'tis a big fat download 'cause it's seven minutes or something

That means 4 of the 6 songs are now available free online. :) Going to download it to see if I can tell any difference now it's been mastered.

They got a review from artrocker that was really cool too, let me see if I can find it.

(oh they also played the artrocker club last week which is probably partly why they are on there).

And, in case you were wondering, two of them are real pirates; the other two are spiritually pirates. So now you know.

I can just imagine them saying that.

Hey, I just found out that purr club stole one of my reviews (about Wet Dog) and credited it to Anon.

Interesting.

Ooh, they played with The Fog Band. Do you know if they thought they were any good? They're playing at the RSAC with us in July...

PETE & THE PIRATES (London UK)
Currently the hot property of Stolen Records with but a handful of gigs to their name and no release yet. Unlike too much else currently The Pirates are decidedly artrock AND rock'n'roll and they capture the true spirit of the bands that influence them (Modern Lovers/Velvets/New York Dolls/ Voidoids). Guitars are intermittantly clean then distorted, duel vocals are harmonised. Folk bits, Byrdsy harmony bits, kraut-rock frug-outs, punk blasts of power and superb pop moments all strewn together. If The Velvet Underground's "Loaded" is your favourite and you like a band who rock out, you'd better catch them. The debut EP "Get Even" is out on Stolen Records now. +

Cool. The Pirates are still the best band in Reading. I might never again see a drumming performance like the one johnny put in last night.

They were really good last night.

Johnny was great. I thought he was going to shake his own head off at one point.

ps. If anyone can get along to their (free) launch gig on Sunday at the Spitz they'd really appreciate it. I'm gonna be in Budapest sadly.

Apparently the Spitz is a really cool venue.

They were the best i've ever seen them last night I think (and I've seen them loads).

There was quite a lot of new stuff as well I think...

And I thought for a while they were going to just play Saviour until Johnny actually died.

My friend Kevin and his mates did this scene a looooooooooooooooong time ago. Still do.
Best damn xylophone solos you've ever heard!

Apparently, there's an "international pirate band directory" link on this site. Maybe Pete and Co. should communicate with Kevin and Co? Great guys...

They aren't really a pirate band. :)

They're art punk or something, there are two of their tracks on the CD I sent you. :)
