Several thousand people crammed into Fysikgränd, a group of courtyards and student accomodation houses near where I live, for the annual rounders tournament illegal street party friday night. It's an absolute blast, half a dozen competing sound systems in bike sheds, small live bands in gazebo tents, people setting fire to funiture (okay, not that much fun) and worried, crestfallen cops just looking on as the young people completely take over.

Me, my GF, and two of our friends set up a small sound system in one of the bike sheds and it was definately the hottest dancefloor of the night, in competition with the bigger but less crammed house floor.

This is what the view from our bike shed looked like:

Our not-exactly-state-of-the-art equipment, mostly borrowed (the big amplifier/mixer board was rented, though cheaply):

Another crowd scene. I estimate 40-50 people danicng next to us in total.

3 AM people start to drop off from the area. While our dancefloor is still pumping, our nearest competition appears to have run out of steam.

A bunch of security guards/thugs came and closed us down at 3:49, threatening us with police action. We could easily have maintained it for another hour, very few people were leaving at this point. Still, it was a smashing night. This is what remained of our dancefloor at 4:30:

That all looks really cool. You just wouldn't get away with stuff like that in this country, and if you did little chavy kids would just turn up and ruin it.

Well, we are close to the polar circle and it's less than a month to summer solistice.

I just cant get my head around the idea of having a massive party in daylight

Looks like a lot of fun.

Boo! Cd mixing! Boo!

I'm joking. I can't even mix with a spoon, let alone CDs or vinyl. ;)

Congrats on a successful gig.

Apparently, I read in an article about Pete Tong the other day, a lot of the top DJs (including the afformentioned) are mixing using CDs not vinyl these days.

Well this time of year that far north, there is very little dark...note the 3am picture - it is completely bright...

(PHd :D)

31-05-2005, 13:19:47
So you're telling me that that far north it's daylight at 3am, thanks to it being so northward?

31-05-2005, 13:29:02
the land of the midnght sun eh

not enough pictures of hot blonde girls

also there appears to be some kind of artful dodger character in that first pic

No son of mine is gonna be a nineteenth-century Cockney bootblack!

31-05-2005, 19:59:27
do you seriously have that much daylight at 3:00 AM?

who could party when it's light out?

31-05-2005, 20:40:31
Have you never been to a party that started in the afternoon or something?

31-05-2005, 20:47:10
I mean, I've been drunk plenty of days before noon but it's always weird.

31-05-2005, 20:50:47
When I worked nights... it was weird

What was that motto Venom?

Everything looks better in the Dark... especially me when drunk.

31-05-2005, 20:52:43
I don't know what you look like, but that's a safe bet.

It seriously doesn't feel like much of a problem when it's dark first and generally becomes lighter. Starting in daylight is vaguely wrong (which we did, almost, at 10 PM) but once that dark period has happened it's just slightly surreal.

Apparently today's sunrise was officially at 02:46, in case you're doubting my perception of time.

only freaks live that far north. :p

if humans were meant to live in that kind of cold, we'd be born with fur coats.

01-06-2005, 09:17:24
If twats were meant to live in the desert they'd be born with air conditioning.

They must have very advanced window blind technology.

Actually the four-hours-of-daylight winter is much worse.

01-06-2005, 16:14:58
I would absolutely fucking hate 20 hours of darkness.

01-06-2005, 17:08:21
Drunken/drugness during daylight is like being at a rock festival. As long as you're not the only one, everything is cool.
