Is it my imagination, or is this new White Stripes album really shit. It seems to have got pretty good reviews everywhere, and to be fair I've only listened to it about 2 and a half times, but I just can't imagine listening to it much more...

What does anyone else think?

King_Ghidra

oh is it out in the shops yet or am i going to have to do an e-donkey on it? I haven't heard even one track from it yet.

I liked the one song I've heard...only heard it once and I don't even know the name yet

I think the single was "Blue Orchid", certainly over here anyway, so it's probably that you've heard... The album's quite piano-led country/folky, so if you like that kind of thing then you'll probably enjoy the rest of it... I liked them when they had more balls about them, the more noisy raucous stuff...

Sounds like more of the same to me. Only with even more irritating vocals.

I'm pretty sure that with all this practice the drummer would have learned to play by now. I think she's faking it. Don't ask me why.

I think Blue Orchid is pretty good.

But I'll always defend them (within reason)

I quite like the White Stripes later stuff. It's less jarring, I think.

I'm not sure which White Stripes song is off which album. I just download a bunch of them.

2 of their songs I like the most are: 7 Nation Army and I think I smell a rat. Is that their early or later stuff?

I bought this on Monday. Listened to half and wasn't too keen. Thought it was very difficult listening. Very disjointed. However, I gave it a once over last night and I'm coming around to it. I'm glad it appears to be more than just a Jack White guitar showcase (good as it was on the previous albums) although obviously this does remain to an extent.

I'm pleased they've (he's) tried to do something a bit more obscure. I've always wanted them to do a proper old blues album and this is more evident on GBMS.

Very dubious that some riffs are reappearing though. He seems to have dragged out the one used on Dead Leaves and No Home For You Here again (at least twice on this album).

Remains to be seen whether I'm listening to this in 2 months time. I've had my day with the White Stripes and I doubt whether this album does quite enough to change my mind despite some highlights.

I'm coming round to this album a bit more than when I started this thread, but I still maintain that the second song, The Nurse, while being a bit different etc, is just plain shit. That kind of xylophoney type instrument (don't know what it's called) sounds like something from the Lion King soundtrack.

Yeah, I was physically wincing the first time I heard that.

as opposed to the spiritual wincing you usually indulge in

Funko

A lot of fire, possibly leather, spikes and demons?

Gramercy Riffs

Yep and it sounds like it lacks at least all of those things.

novacane

Another dismissive comment from Gramercy before he's actually listened to the album in question............;)

If it has fire leather spikes and demons I'm buying it immediately.

it doesn't

I am shocked by that news. Very, very shocked.

That's just going to reinforce Gramercy's feeling that he can prejudge albums isn't it. :(

Ah, thats better. Amos is about to sell his share of the farm to the King family, but they are going to build fancy apartments on there. Mrs Gleesthorpe of Platt Farm in Hotton will NOT be pleased by this news.

And the postman is sleeping with the milkmaid. Will the village ever recover?
