Fuel economy N/A...it that because they have to start measuring in gallons per mile rather than miles per gallon :D Looks like a nice car but ridiculous nonetheless...

yearly ownership taxes in Italy (~5 per kW): ~3,700/yr

That looks quite nice.

Anyone who can afford a million euro car isn't going to give a shit about fuel economy or a few thousand euros a year in taxes.

Heck, even if you only sold it for 50% you'd be doing okay.

The Veyron has already received bad press, and been compared unfavourably to the McLaren F1.

The F1 was designed from the start to be "the ultimate driving experience" and the fact that it was stupendously fast was almost incidental. Meanwhile the Veyron was designed to be "the fastest production car"- faster than the F1, in other words.

With that power and profile, it's safe to assume it'll be faster than the F1, but apparently it's got unpredictable handling. At 400km/h, you really really really don't want unpredictable handling. In testing they had a number of very scary spins.

Even if I was a multi-billionaire, I wouldn't touch it.

Incidentally, there's a bloke who drives around Portishead in a blue Pagani Zonda. Now that's a car....
