I ran across this rather graphic photo of what happens to a human body when it is hit in the head by an American .50 cal sniper round. The M107 .50 cal sniper rifle is prized not only for its accuracy and armor extreme stopping power but also for "its heavy psychological effect". Meaning if you are an insurgent and the guy next you's head is blown clean off and all that remains is a headless corpse spewing a fountain of blood from the neck then that sight is likely to damage enemy morale.

This insurgent was apparently hit in the upper part of the head so his whole head wasn't blown off but the damage was still severe.

I'll post the picture as a link instead of using img tags so those who don't want to see it don't have to. Still it is interesting in a very morbid way.

Nah it's just a general  that in the 21st century mankind still revels in finding ever more effective ways of killing each other...

Kind of reminds me of a scene out of Peter Jackson's Bad Taste...

That's awful.

honestly, we have had 50 cal guns since WW2 (or before)

it is just that they generally didn't result in headshots...

Snipers are supposed to go for body shots but I understand some snipers want to show their skill by going for head shots. Or it could have just been the shot errored on the high side.

Death from a point five is much quicker than that of a sniper captured by the insurgents.

The calibre is still popular for something designed to penetrate WW1 tanks.

And I should call them what instead?

You could call him whatever you want. You'd still think of him as sub-human you sick fuck.

How is that? What did I say to disrespect him or make him out to be subhuman? Instead I offered an analytical photograph of the effects of a commonly used firearm.

But please continue your name calling and baseless accusations. Don't let facts get in the way.

Oh isn't it terribly "interesting" that this "insurgent" got executed by "an American .50 cal sniper round". How terribly, terribly "interesting".

Maybe if you were there you could have got a nice photo of you pointing at his dead body and laughing happily at the camera.

protein its a military thing- you cant get all weepy over the lost humanity if you have to harden yourself to war. I think you're forgetting what Oerdin's been trained for, I don't think he's being deliberately insensitive. Blown up heads is the reality of warfare.

I do find the curiousity in this a bit morbid, though.

I think "insurgent" is actually the PC expression. Use it on a right-wing forum and you'll be howled down for not using the expressions "terrorist" or "enemy of freedom".

Such raving lunitic fringe groups as CNN or BBC use the term insurgent so I feel I can use the same term without cause for alarm.
