Its kind of spur of the moment type thing since prices are dirt cheap ($260 round trip air from California) and I'm going with 8 other friends & friends of friends so other expenses should be pretty cheap. One rented SUV and splitting a beach house 8 ways shouldn't be to bad.

Anyone been to Costa Rica who can suggest any can't miss attractions?

Apparently the rain forests are something special.

Better see them before they're all cut down and turned into ranches for feeding burgers to obese Americans...

On a related note, Supersize Me is on channel 4 in seventeen minutes.

My parents were there last year, but I don't think you'd be interested in the same stuff they were. They did go on some sort of rainforest tour down there - either Lapa Rios or someplace similar http://www.laparios.com/laptour.htm - which sounded cool when they described it.

Probably pricey, the same vacation is the reason they're not going to the beach with us this summer.

PS Watch out for the highway patrol. They have been known to shake down tourists.

We haven't exactly decided yet. I want to surf so that means pacific side but the other people are middle aged engineers and their wives/girlfriends who don't surf. My guess is they'll want to go to the caribbean side and do some snorkling.

Costa Rica is where they filmed "Jurassic Park" IIRC. Try and see that!

Arenal Valcano National Park is supposed to be well worth seeing.
