What's in it?

And make sure you keep those spices in the dark.

20-04-2005, 17:23:02
hot curry powder, and two other things

it's not really my rack, but the previous owner of the house left it

20-04-2005, 17:31:41
paprika, curry powder, cumin, garam masala, coriander seeds, mustard seeds, peppercorns, chilli flakes, chilli powder, mixed herbs, szechuan pepper, italian herbs, oregano, salt, cardamom, cinnamon, cayenne, laksa paste, thai red curry paste and coconut powder

do I ever use anything other than the last three? Not really.

The only things I care about in mine are oregano, basil, and garlic salt. Maybe some rosemary. The rest is LoC's concern.

Oregano is not in my rack, the big box I need to keep doesn't fit in there :D

Peperoncino (red hot chili pepper?, ground), erba cipollina (dill? or is it chives? maybe chives...), alloro (laurel? bay leaves?), salvia (sage???) (also live in a pot on the windowsill), some rosemary twigs, nutmeg (or is it megnut?), cloves, ESTRAGON (french original, from Nice!), curry powder (lame tasteless italian sort), ground black pepper (US imported metal box), thyme, fennel seeds...
er.... for sure some more outside the rack (e.g. cinnamon sticks, marjory leaves...)

20-04-2005, 18:10:25
Mint, Parsley, Oregano, Italian seasoning, cracked black pepper, Currey powder, mild chilli powder, cumin (ground and seeds; turmeric &* ground coriander. Also garam masala mixed spiced and uncle tom...

thx (and wonder...)

curious: WHAT's that "italian" seasoning by you???? we know nothig about it
or rather, the only I can think of it's onion/carrot/celery minced and fried (soffritto) used to make ragł / sugo alla bolognese....
that's hardly some dry herb mix you can keep in a vase on a rack...

Italian seasoning = Oregano, Basil, Red Pepper, Marjoram, Thyme, Rosemary, Sage & Parsley. I sprinkle it on grilled turkey steaks and top with cheese until melted and brown.

I've got sea salt in my spice rack. Got it as a present awhile back, still haven't figured out what to use it for.

Spice racks suck. They're so 70's, and not in a good way.

lots of fresh herbs for me! yum!

21-04-2005, 09:18:27
Fresh herbs are good but that's different from spices...

I just have racking inside the cupboard for spices.

21-04-2005, 09:20:10
Oh and

Cumin, corriander, peppercorns, cloves, cardomom pods, chinese 5 spice, garam massala, hot paprika, thai lemongrass and coconut or something like that... chilli powder, bombay spice mix, turmeric, hot curry powder..

Some other stuff I can't remember.

Nutmeg, Cloves, Aniseed, Cumin, Thyme, Pav Bhaji Masala, Paprika (two types), Tandoori Masala, Garam Masala, Rosemary, Black Pepper, Cayenne, Cinnamon, Coriander, Vegeta (eastern european universal seasoning), and something vaguely and worryingly identified as "Meat and Barbecue Seasoning". Plus four types of salt.

I have (or rather, had) a small spice rack near the stove with fourteen bottles chosen for appearance and utility -- whole nutmeg, allspice, cumin, coriander, anise seed, mustard seed, bay leaves, rosemary needles, and seseme seed, cinnamon sticks, flaked oregano, and a couple other things.

Everything else (including bulk flaked oregano) was crammed in a large cabinet that smelled wonderful whenever opened.
