Due to a recent abherration in my common sense, I have signed up to run this year's Race for Life in support of Cancer Research UK! Its a 5km race on June 19th. Bearing in mind I have only been going to the gym since January, and I have not done any running for approximately 20 years (believe me that horrifies me more than you!), I think this will be either a great challenge for me and my trainer, or a great challenge for the St John's ambulance :D

Its a cause close to my heart, as my father passed away in 2000 due to cancer, so I am running in memory of Daddy Satsuma, and to hopefully raise money to help prevent other people losing loved ones. I am sure we all know someone who has had an experience of this disease.

So anyway, I will shortly be tapping everyone I know for their hard earned cash...

So.......would anyone on CG be prepared to shed a couple of coins..... perhaps I might even release a photo of me looking like a beetroot after the race. Think of the avatar potential! It would be like Provost H all over again!! :nervous: Its open to anyone with a credit or debit card and its all done through a secure website on which you will find a nice message from me to tell you what a fantastic person you are (once I've written it :D) There's no minimum sponsorship, so even a pound counts.

I appreciate that not everyone likes being asked to sponsor, but I'm trying my luck anyway, as whatever I raise will be matched by my corporate whore company :)

I will post the link to my webpage when its up, hopefully in the next two weeks. DH has agreed to sponsor me, but then he knows I'll put his nuts in a vice if he doesn't :cute:

Thanks for reading this, and I will be eternally grateful to anyone who sponsors me.

PS, Funko you can stop laughing now :)

I'm not laughing. Amy's doing her third one this year. I'll sponsor you the same I'm sponsoring her. Good luck, and great cause.

Yeah, I'll throw something in. You'll have to remind me closer to the time though, or I'll forget.

Fair fucking play to you. I did 3k on a running machine the other day and oh boy was I pooped afterwards.

Maybe I should think about doing something like this... Seems like a good idea. My pop also died of cancer recently. Where's the race?

I'll sponsor you five whole English pounds. Just tell me where to sign up...

LOL i actually went and got my card, clicked on the link and found it was to enter the race!!!

Anyway count me in. I used to work for CRUK (well they were still ICRF when I was there) so I can safely say the money will help the research effort.

I've got about 50 pounds left over from my visit. They won't take those notes at the strip club, so I suppose you can have some of it.

My finance situation is laughable, but this sounds a far better cause than certainposterwantingrentforfloorallofasudden so count me in :)

If I could walk, I would also be doing this race for life thing....maybe next year...I'll stick to sponsership for now :cute:

5K is very doable with only a few weeks preparation - you won't be pleased with your time, but you can run it without stopping. I've been doing regular 3X a week 5K runs since last August.

Is it cross-country? Those are harder.

Bump this up when the time gets closer!

thanks again guys :)

SLight hitch in my training plan as I've pulled all the muscles down the front of my legs- pesky shin membrane!

resting it and hoping to be able to walk further than 10 metres by next week

MDA, cheers for your faith in me!! I'm really not a natural runner as a) I was really unfit till this year and have been going to gym now since Jan b)I get exercise induced asthma, so I have to go pretty slow to counteract the risk of an attack. I'll be happy if I manage to run 1K to be honest :) Plenty of people just walkit so there's no shame in doing that, but I likes a challenge! I have't seen the course but its between two piers apparently.

Just waiting for DH to bring me some frozen peas for my legs....

Its easy. I hadn't exercised regularly since I was 17 - and I get asthma, too.

I'm still about 15 pounds overweight, so I look like a typical American.

I ran a 6K cross country a month ago that totally kicked my ass, but it was freezing and I was climbing some of the damned hills with my hands, they were so steep. I was totally unprepared. :)

Here I am in the flat part near the start.

edit: crap picture

Still, he should be consoled by the fact that he's not in last place by that point.

No, I'm MoSe's thinner, younger, brother.

I think I recently explained that I'm actually Dustin Hoffman - when he played Rainman.

...but I run like Forrest Gump.

The beard went away today.
