I'm not sure about that. The coal strip mines in west Virgina have some pretty big dump trucks. Those guys move massive amounts of dirt and rocks.

1) Ford owns a minority share
2) Designed and built in Japan (manufactured in Hiroshima)
3) The only thing Ford made was the suspension (and it was designed by the European Ford division for the Euro Focus SVT, a much much better product than what we get on this side of the pond). Volvo made the chasis and safety equipment, Mazda did the powertrain and electronics, Ford did the...suspension.

I was considering getting the Mazda6, but that one is actually made in Detroit. No thank you. ;)

Rotor blades!? You mean Apex seals? If so yes. I have 3mm ceramic apex seals instead of 2mm stock, new ring and corner seals as well. I run on 12 psi with the original turbo. My intake ports and exhaust ports are also street ported. I did all that 1 year after I bought the car, at 65000 miles. I did it before the engine blew (Like all other 1993 and up RX7) so that my rotor housings wouldn't have started to flake chrome. :D
The trick to keep reliability is to change the oil every 2000 miles and let the engine cool before turning off and letting it heat up before pushing it.

Had it for 7 years now. Well, 7 on July 21st.

03-04-2005, 17:39:18
No i knew it was a 7, they are more often than not referred to as blades over here dunno why, but you knew what i meant so that must mean something.

Don't blame me im a 4 Stroke Junky of the RB flavour.

Have you changed the turbo/turbo's or are you running the standards?? What is your charge temp like??

And how about a turbo timer, stop you having to sit in the car on the cool down, unless of course you like the pose factor. :p :D

Provost Harrison
03-04-2005, 19:44:05
En Anglais?

DevilsH@lo
03-04-2005, 20:05:56
The rotor on the wankle engine obviously can't have piston rings to seal as in a normal cylinder type engine due to it's nature of operation, it has "Apex Seals" "Rotor Blades" instead which do the same job. They are a known issue with all rotory wankel type engines the norton F1 used to eat them in about 20K miles i think, although it was running much higher RPM's.

RB is a family of engines built by nissan as fitted to the Skyline @2.6 litres although they produce a 2.5 and 2.0 litre variant, all being straight Six engines.

Turbo's do what turbo's do, forced induction, more oxygen, more intense burn, more power. They can cause problems when run above spec due to the increase in the Air Charge Temperature which in turn can lead to detonation (pinking) which can happily munch engines. Hence why i was asking, although i don't know enough about the RX to suggest the factory intercooler or turbo's should have a problem at this pressure, I have most experience with nissan's and you can run the T28 at 15psi without problems but the wing mounted IC is crap.

A turbo timer is an ECU bolt on which allows the engine to have a cool down period after you have finished driving it. The reason being that turbos operate in the 100's of 1000's of rpm and when you cut the engine the oil pump stops (stopping oil circulation) which can lead to sludging of the feeds inside the turbo which causes premature wear on bearings and can block up oil ways, leading to dead turbo's. The timer in some cases will work out the required cool down time from how the turbo has been used and run the engine on long enough for the oil to bring down the temperature in the turbo core to something which will prolong its life. Another way of getting around the problem although not solving it is to water cool the turbo, in another jacket around the core, but this is only really necessary for joe public who doesnt understand the requirement to cool down.

I had heard there was to be a new RX7 but that was mostly through enthusiat sites, who have been unimpressed with the RX8 which is apparently not focused enough. I'm not overly keen on the 8 myself and think it was mazda doing a family sports car rather than a sports coupe, so hopefully they will fill the gap which they have left by dropping the 7. We shall wait and see, although nissan are keeping details of the R35 pretty close to their chests if they are even planning to build one at all, there was a prototype on show at one of the motorshows, and now available in GT4 but wether or not this will make it to production is anyones guess, seeing as its a 40 year old series of cars, would seem a shame to drop it now. Well i think so anyway.

The new RX-7 will be a two door version of the RX-8 with changed body panels. They're also talking about a convertable version.

Supposedly the release date has been pushed back because the factory is having trouble building enough RX-8s to fill demand so they're going to wait for the RX-8 to cool down before they introduce the RX-7.
