View Full Version : Is this weird?

Greg W

Known a girl from the net for 6 years, from EQ. Give or take. We used to talk about everything, from her relationships to mine, to life, the universe and everything. Nothing untoward, just good friends. But when my marital problems started, we lost contact for a while. Emailed her today, and she emailed me back straight away. So I mentioned my Messenger account. So we start chatting on Messenger. 2 hours later I have her phone number (she lives in the states).

So, I give her a call. 4 hours later (and I don't wanna think how much money later), we stop talking. I've known her for 6 years. She knew I was married, and that I've recently broken up. I've heard all about her relationships, and there's been some doozies - which I've tried to help her through.

So she tells me she's actually somewhat in love with me. Which doesn't strike me as all that odd, and doesn't make me feel weird at all. In fact it's like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle has fallen into place.

I'm sure that's somewhat weird. I mean, fook, she stayed up until 6am talking to me. But it don't seem all that weird to me. It feels kinda natural. And talking to her was just great fun. We laughed... we cried... we just...clicked.

Why do I get the feeling that my life would make for a great soap opera?

Friend of mine from back in the Wide Brown Land met some chicky-boo on the Internet a while back. They exchanged many an email and chat session, and eventually photos. He was chuffed to receive a quite hoit picture of a lady in a bikini.

Their relationship developed. Until the chick with the bikini started talking to him too. Turns out his online friend was the mentally disturbed aunt of bikini chick. As expected, their 'relationship' didn't last long after that :p Damn Canadians.

He didn't learn his lesson either, next thing you know he's hooked up with some girl from Thailand. At least he met her in RL and verified she wasn't a 56 year old mentalcase.

Tell us where she lives, Greg. I'm sure there's a US CGer who can go verfiy she is who she is.

Oh, and I always found the rates for AAPT to be more than reasonable when talking to the States.

You have no right to insult anyone here, ever.

Online relationships are one things, those that start in EQ2 are in a league of their own.

Shame on you.

See how it goes.

EQ seems to be the hookup game.

The first person I got to know well in EQ married a girl I introduced him to in the game.

The exguild leaders of the big gay guild met and had an illegal wedding and hav e been together 3 years or so now.

There are about 4 other couples I know of in the gay guild who met through EQ.

Good friend of mine who also played recently married a guy she met online in EQ.

EQ is the game for hooking up.

And apparently the open bar at the fan fests helps!

Not going to rush anything, we're just talkin at the moment. There's a fair bit of stuff to work through on both our parts before it oculd work. Meeting would be a good start. ;)

We'll see how it goes, but I'm hopeful. :)

EQ is also quite old, subscriber numbers have fallen off a lot since games like WoW, EQ2 and SWG came out. It is good fun, however it's also quite well developed and old in the tooth. You'd be better off getting something (anything really) newer.

Good luck Greg!

We've got tons of LD relationships that "worked out" here, you know. And other that haven't. But you won't know if you don't let it go.

Besides, it sounds like you really like her. Or are you just rebounding?

Greg W
31-03-2005, 15:28:25
Well, I've always liked her a lot as a friend. She's a really great person, kind, caring, and she's been through a bit of a rough time with previous relationships. I suppose up to now we've just been good LD friends. Hadn't even spoken until last weekend in fact, but we had emailed and talked in EQ a LOT.

Was very weird hearing her voice for the first time, spun me out a bit, I must say (and also, unless she hired someone to talk for her on about 5 mins notice, or she had a damned good op, she's legit :p ). Right now I don't know what to think. I told her that, and it's a softly softly for now approach. I said I'll maybe think about heading to the states in October when I have holidays if we're still getting on okay, and see how things go from there.

Oh, god, and probably took about 10 minutes to kill them all (if my recollections of how long it took bards to kite anything way back when is correct).

Now though, they're just broken. Well, as of 1.5 years ago anyway. Waaaaaaay too powerful if played by someone that knows what they're doing.
