OK time to test those pathetic excuse making skills of yours. Challenge #1, finish the following sentence:

I haven't played LaserSquad: Nemesis yet because...

Nav

Yeah, but I still have to download it. And at the current time, I'd only have time to play it on the weekends.

Funkodrom
28-03-2002, 14:37:20
Downloading will take you about 2 picoseconds, it's only 7 meg and weekends are fine. I just want to beat you at it. :D

The Shaker
28-03-2002, 14:39:55
As if venom could actually beat anyone at anything.

Funkodrom

Venom

When I was younger, I would have rushed headfirst into your challenge MikeH, but now I'm older and wiser. I will train first and come from no where to kick the shit out of you.

665? It fits!!! At least it will if I take off fallout tactics, total air war and anything else I can find. I was worried you were going to say >1Gb then there would be problems.

Anyway I noramlly have 35Gb of space but my 30 Gb drive melted so I down to just the 5 Gb one. really cant believe i lived in anything that small for so long!

... it sounds boring. Turn based? Bleurgh.

Goob

Well I've played the tutorial #3 twice now, first time I had my helmet handed to me on a stick. Second time I lost 12-15, my lone remaining commander shot it out with an exterminator, I missed - he didn't.

I fired a grenadier at too close a range at a missle tank and the bouncing grenade came right back and blew up a grunt and my grenadier, that turned the tide at the end.

It also crashed my work computer once and came dangerously close a second time.

It has some definite potential.

Darkstar

I'm not playing it because... it sounds like a fad game. You guys are in it now, but will be bored and out soon enough. And I've got plenty to finish playing with and waiting to be played. ;)

Shining1

Paul: Kinda what I thought when I came to write the review - am I going to be playing this for another 6 months?

So far, so good. I am still learning so much each game that I feel like a pathetic newbie:). Which is more or less what I am.

And the game is so far from being finished, too. So once the basics have been mastered and the maps learned, there will be new stuff to play with.

So I think it's premature to call it a fad game, but do as you must:).

Just remember, if it isn't, y'all have a LOT of catching up to do:). Whereas at the moment everyone is still beatable - sometimes very beatable (I have yet to seriously challenge Rics robots and I have a severe weakness in the endgame against Mike).

Darkstar
30-03-2002, 06:43:04
:D

It sounds like a blast. But... they are going to need to give you guys a map editor. So you can build your own battle maps... That's just off the top of my head.

And if it's left static... (no enhancements), well... this crowd does have a bad habit of leaving behind it's 'Favorite Game of the Full Moon'.

Have fun, and enjoy. That's what's important. ;)

Shining1
30-03-2002, 07:18:11
What they've done:
* Two sides, 5 and a half units each
* Improved interface.

What's in the line:
* Third race
* Map editor
* Unit downloads
* Single player

What might be done:
* Team games?
* Progressive online campaign?

It has scope for development, yes:).

Darkstar
30-03-2002, 07:57:28
Campaign would be very good. I wish them lots of success. The world needs great games. :D

The Shaker
30-03-2002, 13:01:40
A bit of nostalgia as well, rebelstar was one of my favourite speccy games of all time :)

But I too am wondering if, when I come back in a month, there will be anyone left playing (so i'm saving my cash till then)

Shining1
31-03-2002, 02:26:14
Ric - bit of a self fulfilling prophecy, that. I.e, if you wait around for everyone else to start playing, you lessen the number of games being played, and so the whole thing doesn't get off as well as it should have, and falls over.

Personally, I think everyone should go register now. It's cheap compared to anything else new you'll play in the next 6 months, it's well balanced, has great depth, and IT'S NOT FINISHED even.

Especially the new people - registering means you can start your own games, so you don't keep having to play me and Mike and everyone else who has had a month of learning over you.

Sean
31-03-2002, 10:08:27
Why should I register for an unfinished game? That would make it more expensive by the time they have finished it.

Nav
31-03-2002, 11:53:04
No. Their policy is clear $15 for 6 months.......

Shining1
01-04-2002, 01:57:04
Clearly I'm not as famous as it first seemed:p

Random map generator is coming. It's only 10. :D

Should I do an updated review for version 1.06 or what?:)

Funkodrom
01-04-2002, 08:04:55
You could probably add it on to the existing review at the bottom.

Shining1
01-04-2002, 08:06:04
I'd prefer to update it, if anything. Reading the old one and THEN reading the new one and finding out all the things that have changed is a bit redundant.

The Shaker 2
01-04-2002, 09:39:39
true ned...but i aint near a computer for the next month so its pointless buying 6 months worth.

Shining1
01-04-2002, 09:51:49
That makes a bit more sense:).

On the other hand, you'd likely still get as much entertainment out of it during 5 months for $15 dollars than anything else you'd spend 12 pounds on:).

Funkodrom
01-04-2002, 09:58:47
But he could just sign up in a months time. :-) It's only 10.53

This is a very tempting feature.

Venom

Funkodrom

Venom I sent you a challenge. :D

Sean: OK well you could turn them back on quickly and PM me, send me an e-mail using mike@loudmedicine.net or one of my many other e-mail addresses or just post an e-mail. Then again I could just try and guess your ntlworld account but what would be the point in that?

Venom

I have a GREAT computer. It's Freedom Force that has the problem. ;)
